I tried making my own chicken bites out of organic chicken lovingly minced at home a la AK - my horrid darling angels refused to eat it.

I would object, not because I think foreign meat is in any way inferior (I very much doubt that, given the standards many of our animals are kept in) but because what's the point of racking up all those food miles?

The environmental impact would be enough to make me head to waitrose.

M&S nuggets have some sort of weird HOLE/GAP thing in the middle I cooked them and then threw them away, they looked like somethting from the ELC kitchen set

I was horrified to read the country of origin on a tin of M&S chicken meal was Brazil - surely in this economic climate they should be supporting UK farmers and giving the customer food produced in the UK not producing it in Brazil and supporting farmers from another country...

How many of us will have eaten this without looking at the small print on the tin - I'm sure most of their customers would prefer they produced it in the uk ?

i also don't get the argument that they should be supporting local farmers etc. they're a business, they'll do whatever is most cost effective and makes them the most profit.
it is up to customers to force them to change their purchasing policies by paying the bit extra to shops which do support local farmers and making it in the largfer chains interests to buy locally, if that's what you want.

it often happens that a customer will see two products and buy the cheaper one over the british one, but then complain about large chains not supporting local economies.

Is it OK not to care where the chicken comes from as long as it was properly reared and tastes good .
