Geocentric · 29/05/2009 14:16

I am 1970's vintage british spiced ham.

Somewhat past my sell-by date

Boobalina · 29/05/2009 14:35

I'm not being racist you know!

OP posts:
Oliveoil · 29/05/2009 14:35

most ready meals contain meat that is swept off the floor

imvho

Geocentric · 29/05/2009 14:36

I know, Boobalina, I was just putting things into perspective. And anyway, they're chikens, don't think racism applies

Geocentric · 29/05/2009 14:36

chickens, even

LovelyTinOfSpam · 29/05/2009 14:37

Mmmmm yum. Sweepings

Boobalina · 29/05/2009 14:39

It is questionable meat, and Brazilan to boot.

Am going back to Waitrose chicken bites I fancy.

Fuck, my life is exciting....

OP posts:
LovelyTinOfSpam · 29/05/2009 14:40

Why is it questionable meat though?

Recommend hot-footing it back to waitrose though

Oliveoil · 29/05/2009 14:42

make your own?

chop up chicken breast, roll in egg, dip into flour with has pepper, garlic powder and paprika in (and salt depending on age of sprog)

cook for about 15 mins at 200

tis in the Dinner Lady Cook Book

I used to make tons and freeze them

or you can mince the chicken but I wanted mine to get used to proper meat after a while and not mush

Geocentric · 29/05/2009 14:42

I tried making my own chicken bites out of organic chicken lovingly minced at home a la AK - my horrid darling angels refused to eat it.

musicposy · 29/05/2009 14:45

I would object, not because I think foreign meat is in any way inferior (I very much doubt that, given the standards many of our animals are kept in) but because what's the point of racking up all those food miles?

The environmental impact would be enough to make me head to waitrose.

Boobalina · 29/05/2009 14:45

Yes have made own in past and still do, but these are handy when in a hurry.

Meat was questionable as it was all bubbly - ie mashed up.

Do you think Jamie Oliver knows about this?!

Oliveoil · 29/05/2009 14:58

I made my own fishfingers once and they weren't eaten either, cheeky feckers

M&S nuggets have some sort of weird HOLE/GAP thing in the middle I cooked them and then threw them away, they looked like somethting from the ELC kitchen set

M&S CHICKEN MEAL FROM BRAZIL

I was horrified to read the country of origin on a tin of M&S chicken meal was Brazil - surely in this economic climate they should be supporting UK farmers and giving the customer food produced in the UK not producing it in Brazil and supporting farmers from another country...

How many of us will have eaten this without looking at the small print on the tin - I'm sure most of their customers would prefer they produced it in the uk ?

proverbial · 28/07/2009 10:51

`Read the packet, and if you don't like it, don't buy it. Not that hard really is it?

mayorquimby · 28/07/2009 12:02

yabu.
i also don't get the argument that they should be supporting local farmers etc. they're a business, they'll do whatever is most cost effective and makes them the most profit.
it is up to customers to force them to change their purchasing policies by paying the bit extra to shops which do support local farmers and making it in the largfer chains interests to buy locally, if that's what you want.

it often happens that a customer will see two products and buy the cheaper one over the british one, but then complain about large chains not supporting local economies.

MoontheMightyThreadKiller · 28/07/2009 15:15

Is it OK not to care where the chicken comes from as long as it was properly reared and tastes good .
