In Clarks, choosing shoes for LO and she turns to me and asks "Mummy can I have Lelli-Kelly shoes?"! How sad that advertising can reach children at this tender age!?

Needless to say she did NOT get lelli-kellis but was equally delighted with her Clarks (which she refers to as lelli-kellis despite being told they're not- but hey she's happy) and there'll be no more channel 5 in this house.

What age did advertising start working its magic on your DC?

milkshake is banned here too.

DS1 watched that advert once and he wanted them. He has no concept that Pink is for girls because I am an anti-colour facist

random · 29/05/2009 20:12

My 2 year old dgs was singing mooooooooonpig .com before he was 2

NancysGarden · 29/05/2009 20:13

hey fairlady, couldn't we get them on trade descriptions "magic wand" indeed!

That moon pig advert is nearly as bad.

FairLadyRantALot · 29/05/2009 20:18

I suppose all some of the adds could be accused of mis-advertisement....i.e. making you believe that they can do the unbelievable, and therefore they could be in trouble...not saying this well, sorry...but a friend of mine told me, that they are not allowed to use lots of fake lashes, etc....when advertising for mascara, as that is misleading....
however, if that would be really so, I'd say all advertisement could be acused of that, lol....it's all lies...

pippylongstockings · 29/05/2009 20:27

My DS1 is at the moment obsessed with bloody Cillet Bang!

BANG and the limescale is gone.
BANG and my brother is gone.
BANG and my brain is gone!

Barry Bithal et all bang and they are gone....

Yurtgirl · 29/05/2009 20:33

Sorry pippylong but that is really funny

independiente · 03/06/2009 20:52

Cbeebies only around here. Does the job!

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 03/06/2009 20:57

I'm still from a recent thread in which Lelli Kellis were described as blinged-up Doodles.

As for marketing ... we got a Freeview box for wall-to-wall CBeebies after DD (who was about three at the time) announced 'I'm loving it' as we drove past a MacDonalds. No more channel 5 for us.

mumblecrumble · 03/06/2009 21:00

Ooooooh..., this makes me think of those magic shoe things that came with a secret key or something when I was little....

nevergonnapost · 03/06/2009 21:04

i binned my cillet bang ..bang and the bath was almost gone terrible fumes its like acid my ds 16 has autism he loves compare the meerkat.com advert always laughs out loud at it

janeite · 03/06/2009 21:04

I have no idea what Lelli-Kelli shoes are but when dd1 (now 14) was two, she sat in House of Fraser trying on shoes and said, 'but I wanted Gucci shoes, mummy' - I have never seen a Gucci shoe in my life but had won a Gucci handbag in a competition and she'd obviously heard me talking about it.

mum23monkeys · 03/06/2009 21:11

follow the link to the 'fashion sandals' or 'high canvas'. tasteful footwear

I'm dreading this phase. dh will not allow lelli kellies in the house.

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 03/06/2009 21:12

My dd1 is very very susceptible to any advert. She is 5. At mothers days last year she wanted to buy my mum some 'Cillit Bang and the dirt is gone' and some 'mild green Fairy Liquid'

dd2 has just turned two and is still oblivious to any advert that is not to do with The Night Garden.

janeite · 03/06/2009 21:12

Argh - they are indeed revolting. I absolutely hate the idea of little girls wearing even the slighest hint of heel. Shudder.

Guitargirl · 03/06/2009 21:13

We just watch CBeebies here but my parents have Sky and DD (2.5) watches Nick Junior there. I heard her tell the playgroup leader this week that her new sandals were Lelli Kellis (which they are not) and she also loves the Cillit Bang advert - much to my parents' amusement .

MichKit · 06/06/2009 15:16

DH will kill me if I allow any Lelli Kelly's in the house. I was in Jones' the Bootmakers the other day to look for some summer shoes, and came across these ones, and they were, get this £35 quid!!! £35 quid???? I haven't spent that much on a pair of shoes for years!!! Ridiculous!

We now get her shoes from Sports Direct!

Horton · 06/06/2009 16:51

Oh god, I just knew it was going to be Lelli Kellys! DD (2.9) also obsessed with the ads. Luckily the shoe shop we go to doesn't stock them and she's happy to accept that so far. It's only a matter of time before she realises we could go to a different shop, though!
