Leaving plumber alone in house

We're having our bathroom redone, and it is DS' birthday in the middle of the work period. We're planning to take him out for the whole day. Would you be okay about leaving a plumber alone in your house for a whole day? I'm assuming that people where both partners work full-time do this all the time, and that I'm just over-thinking the risk?

We lost £2k (stupid DH leaving it around - well hidden but should have taken with us!) and our camcorder with the tapes of me and the kids just after they were born - so I would never leave anyone in the house ever again!

It depends competely on the type of guy he is. DH is a joiner and (of course) is a lovely, trustworthy man and he has been left alone in people's houses many a time. But he has colleagues that I wouldn't leave in a wendy house alone, never mind our house.

Just go on your instincts - if you don't trust him there is probably a good reason. If you really have to go out could you ask if a neighbour keeps an eye on the house or pops round just to mak sure things are OK? And make sure the builder knows this is the case to avoid any wanking in the front room episodes?

I'm obviously completely naive! We went to Canada and left our plumber re-doing the bathroom. He'd only done one small job for us before... All was fine.

KingRolo - I was thinking about doing that, but was wondering how to let the plumber know that someone would pop in without making a thing of not trusting him. Any ideas?

I'd be far more worried about him buggering up the gas and killing us all than nicking anything

Have you got a pet they could come in to feed? Or if you don't have a pet could you borrow one?

Hmmmm... this is starting to sound like the plot of a particularly dire sitcom.

cornflakegirl · 29/05/2009 13:29

Nope, no pets. Could maybe get her to drop off some shopping for us though...

mp - I don't think I have any gas in the bathroom... you've got me worried now! (As if the others hadn't already managed that!)
