AIBU to put my toddler's legs through the bread / flowers section of the trolley to keep him in place?

His shoes don't tie together when I sit him in the seat, (perhaps I should invest in chavvy trainers with laces), he screeches and tries to climb out, defeating the straps with ease. Not fun at the self-service checkout especially.

Only recently did I notice this fine design-feature on the trolley. Bit like leg braces I would imagine and once experienced, then the DC will be perfectly happy to be bored and comfortable in the seat with a nice lolly or cheapo car / doll

Melmog I always wondered why people used to go shopping with their annoying snotty little people in tow

I vowed that I would never subject other childess shoppers to my snotty creatures screaming "wanna one of them, wanna one of them WAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH"

And of course I never do

Perhaps what is needed is big lockers for people to leave their kids in whilst they shop!

I have to take my DCs shopping with me sometimes but will go out of my way to aviod it. What I just can't understand is when you see both parents struggling round with children in tow - why on earth doesn't one of them stay at home and let the other get on with it ?

YABU putting children in front of trolley is lazy/crap parenting. I had a 2 year gap between my two and never had to resort to putting them in the basket. They were the type that were into everything, so not little demure children who would sit quietly. Just make sure they are occupied
Also do know a child who fell out of the trolley who ended up with concussion. As others said get some reins and keep them occupied by something to eat or putting things in the basket.

My local Tesco won't let you put them in the wire/food bit of the trolley.
Actually left it without doing any shopping last week after a discussion with the patronising security guard who told me I had to put ds in the trolley seat and use the straps on the trolley to strap him in e can because he could climb out the food bit.
Took security guard outside and aksed him to fins me a trolley with a full set of unbroken fully functioning straps.....there was none.
I had put DS in the trolley because it is too deep for him to climb out but he can climb out the seat and he can do it in seconds but Tesco don't trust me to keep an eye on my own ds ad he wouldn't walk nicely around the whole shop without getting bored.

Just leave them in the car instead - much easier. It's safe so long as you make sure the windows are tightly closed to keep the peeedos out.

My supermarket removed most of the double seaters too. So I either had to put one in the trolley or let one run wild up and down the aisles.
Whoever decided that the two seats needed to be right next to each other obviously doesn't have two small children. Mine fight all the way round. Old ladies give me disapproving looks. I have ceased to care.

unless of course it is sunny in which case they will slowly cook while u shop

They should put a seat in the tiny bit at the end where fruit and veg is meant to go - then the kids could have a buggy attachment style steering wheel and "drive" around the shops!! that'd be cool!

Boysboysboys · 29/05/2009 08:07

I think you should stay in the car with the windows shut and send the DC's in to do the shopping. You could read the paper while you are waiting.

Moosy · 29/05/2009 12:03

I could, but only the Daily Mail of course.

Sami, I was joking...
