When DS offered his friend some of the junk food he was eating, his mum shouted to him "don't eat that it's crap!"

Now I admit it was junk food he was eating but it was a rare treat. I completely understand that she didn't want him to have it, but I just thought she could have been more polite about it. AIBU?

Very funny, SH.

Nighbynight · 24/05/2009 09:17

She was very rude, and you are not pathetic for feeling offended.

A mouthful of junk food isnt going to poison any child (unless they are sensitive to additives, but doesnt sound like it here).

I dont see any harm in letting children have junk food as a treat, especially if you balance it by buying healthy treats as well.
For example, fresh raspberries as a snack from the supermarket instead of sweets.

halia · 24/05/2009 09:33

^Let's all turn the tide and show our kids what WE regard as treats... strawberries... peas off the plant... a fresh boiled egg... take control of our precious offspring's health and joyfully suggest treats that are worthy of their bodies...^

"Is that your idea of a treat then? Because mine is a spliff like a baseball bat and a family bag of Malteasers "

mine's a punnet of raspberries with greek yogurt and honey but its also a spliff and a bottle of wine, or a sneaky rollup and a beer at the end of a hot day, or a burger and chips with loads of HP sauce and pickle on a day out.

Is your friend the mum on the other thread getting all hot and bothered about her nanny giving the child ready made pasta, by any chance

saintmaybe · 24/05/2009 09:50

SH

AliGrylls · 24/05/2009 09:51

DH and I were reading that pasta thread yesterday and we were both in hysterics. Some mothers are sooo neurotic about what they feed their children it amazes me. They could well be related.

I prescribe to the view it is what you do most of the time that counts not the few times you let a child choose a treat for themselves.

She sounds mad and rude.

discoball · 24/05/2009 10:54

Just read the thread about the ready made pasta - FGS! she should be glad she's not feeding the child something healthy!!! I would not want to work for that woman, I'd be bloody paranoid!! Life is just too short to worry about ready made pasta!!! Off for a Sunday breakfast, better grill and not fry the bacon.......

discoball · 24/05/2009 10:55

Sorry, meant UNhealthy!!!!

Kimi · 24/05/2009 11:19

While on the subject of food I have just removed two rolls whit ham cherizo [sp] tomato and rocket from DPs pocket, they were his lunch on Friday but he says he felt off colour and did not like the look of them anyone want to tell him what a bin is for!!!!

Longtalljosie · 24/05/2009 11:42

I'd have been more annoyed by the language... assuming the DCs in question were little.

But we're still not finding out what the food in question is... Go on, you can tell me, I'm singlehandedly responsible for my nephew's addiction to fizzy flying saucers

katiestar · 24/05/2009 19:05

YANBU she was rude

pania · 25/05/2009 15:52

YANBU unless it was actual excrement.

MadameCastafiore · 25/05/2009 15:55

I would have pulled her up on saying CRAP in front of my child and would have told her that we say - not terribly nutricious in our house!

Ive never cut a grape in half in my life- I had no idea I was supposed to...

pania · 25/05/2009 16:09

And cherry tomatoes too. I still cut them (ds is 3) although I don't bother cutting them all the way through usually.

I do know of 2 local children who have died from choking on grapes in the last few years- the thing is the skins are very tough so if you get them in your windpipe they're like a little rubber ball.

shockers · 25/05/2009 23:58
Hmm
shockers · 26/05/2009 00:03

I was merely suggesting things that parents could enthusiastically ( because we know they're nice) suggest as treats for their children instead of aspartame laden crap etc. So sorry if I've offended anyone!!

staylucky · 26/05/2009 00:13

We use the word crap all the time at home but my DD knows that there are situations where it adds to comic effect and others where I would NEVER expect her to use words like it. She's 5, she's not traumatised. She LOVES Greggs sausage rolls too

staylucky · 26/05/2009 00:18

Grape shocker! I was about to eat some but i'm too scared now....

Noobylola · 17/02/2016 15:54

She was rude as hell and cussed in front of your child and hers! I'm a parent who rarely lets their child junk but I def would have been a lot more tactful lol

witsender · 17/02/2016 15:55

Why do you keep on resurrecting mega old threads?

Discopanda · 17/02/2016 15:57

This thread is older than my DD

Gazelda · 17/02/2016 15:58
