am i being unreasonable to question a tradesman total bill of £75 for replacing a small 4" bathroom fan, that took him 15 minutes, and the cost of the fan is £20
His hourly rate is £20 an hour.

didn't you get a quote first ?

Did you get a quote first?
The hourly rate could include travel, going to pick up the fan etc, it won't have just appeared by magic.
Also many tradesmen have a min rate for small jobs - otherwise they could do 3 x 1 hour jobs at £20 in a day and not earn much.

Does it include the cost of the replacement part?

shinesun · 24/05/2009 07:48

yes it does include the replacment part, which costs £15, have had no problem paying tradesmen, but thought this was exessive for the time it took him, and yes i should have got a quote first.

I think you'll have to chalk it up to experience and choose a different tradesman next time.

Isn't there usually a call-out charge of, say, £50 just for turning up in the first place?
