Put this in this topic, so that I can get as many replies as possible.

Have found a lovely holiday, self catering, in Ibiza (quiet resort) in a family friendly complex, great daytime flights, air con, near beach, etc for under £1000 for 2 adults and 3and half dd and 12 week old baby (exclusivly breastfed)

Are we mad, or is completely reasonable

Positive and negative experiences please

It more the little one I am more worried about, althoug to date (he is 8 weeks old) he is no bother, sleeps very well, rarely cries, and is completely chilled out!

TIA

Wht are you worried because its ibiza or because of the baby?

We took both our babies away when they were about 6 weeks, they slept all the time were exclusively bf and it was way more relaxing than other hols we've been on with toddlers.

2anddone · 22/05/2009 21:47

YANBU to consider this especially if exclusively breast fed no starilisers etc to worry about. Go, have fun I would have loved to have been able to afford it when dd was born, what a lovely way for your dd to see that everything has stayed the same and you can still do fun things with new baby here too.

wolfnipplechips · 22/05/2009 21:48

would also say dd had a proper pram so we didn't need to worry about travel cot and he slept in it during the day with the uv shield thing on it.

LaDiDaDi · 22/05/2009 21:49

YANBU .

lilymolly · 22/05/2009 21:53

No ibiza is completely irrelevent, its more the baby, and the heat etc.

The exclusive breastfeeding is the salient point really, no bottles, sterilisers, weaning stuff etc etc, and he pretty much sleeps

dd, apart from the odd tantrum is really no trouble either, and is good company, and dp is brilliant with both of them.

I think, its the heat I am really worrying about
I have a flat pushchair, although, he prob could not sleep in it, but we can hire a cot, and I have one of those UV shades for the buggy too.
I could also borrow a double buggy or take another stroller for dd too, as although she walks everywhere at home, I am guessing, she will get tired on hols

wolfnipplechips · 22/05/2009 21:56

YANBU in that case the heat knocked my ds out woo hoo. He got into a fab routine of a sleep then a little swim to cool down then a swim twas fab and we were in Egypt which was bloody boiling. Just remember to drink loads yourself.

Go for it i'm too.

AnyFucker · 22/05/2009 21:58

we are off to ibiza tomorrow (at 3am )

granted, I don't have babies (dc are older than babies )

just go for it, your babies are so adaptable

the shade is cool

air-con is cool

have plenty of fluids

you will have a fab time, no snobbery needed for Ibiza (unless you are in the clubbing meccas), it is beautiful and very chilled

wolfnipplechips · 22/05/2009 21:58

Could you borrow a pram? Its worth it as they stay in the shade and its a bit cooler. Would also recommend a buggy for 3yo we didn't bring one for then 2 yo because she walked everywhere but she wouldn't budge in the heata nd its useful for transporting beach stuff.

wolfnipplechips · 22/05/2009 22:00

Anyfucker what part do you go to? I'd love to go as i have heard really good things but only know of san antonio which i don't think the dc are old enough to appreciate.

lilymolly · 22/05/2009 22:03

resort we are thinking about is es cana opp side of island to san antonio

P.S I have no snobbery about ibiza I had 2 fab drink/sex/dancing fuelled weeks when I was a singleton

We are going to our family cottage in France next month with our 2.2yr old and 12wk old. I always swore I wouldn't put a child through the 'trauma' of going on a plane so young but it's a free holiday and can give DS1 a bottle and DS2 the boob to reduce flying probs. I am taking the Phil and Teds which you dont have to pay extra for on Ryan Air but also a sling fo DS2 for short journeys to the local beach as DS1 walks quite competently unless tired.

My main problem is that DS1 climbs out of all cots and has just stared sleeping in a 'big boy' bed with a gate across his door - how will he cope in a new bed in a new environment???

No concerns about DS2....he is exclusively breastfed....has method of transport.....a pair of swimming trunks....he will just fit in......

Bless him

Boob, sling, bit of shade = happy sleepy baby

AnyFucker · 22/05/2009 22:08

wolf, last year we went to Es Cana....it was quiet, picturesque, turqoiuse sea, not a lager lout in sight, very family-orientated, but busy-enough to keep my 12+8 yr olds happy

tomorrow we are going to Portinatx for the first time, have heard good reports, quiet but pretty, several bars/restaurants but family-orientated, not a club in sight, they filmed "South Pacific" there

I cannot wait...

wolfnipplechips · 22/05/2009 22:13

It always looks beautiful in mags, i once saw pics of jade jaggers place there and have wanted to go since. Dh only gets holidays from october so we have to go further afield for the weather. Will have to try rope some friends into going. Have a lovely time.

Sorry for hijack, as you were

Ps about babies on planes dd commuted between dublin and sheffield from 3 weeks old and never had a single problem.

spottyshoes · 22/05/2009 22:17

Good to know WNC, I turned down a perfectly good holiday opportunity with DS1 due to that (well he was a PFB!)

chipmonkey · 22/05/2009 22:27

We brought the boys to Portugal when ds4 was 9 weeks old. It was better than being in Ireland with a 9 week old, for sure!

wolfnipplechips · 22/05/2009 22:30

True the only downside is post baby body in bikini. I have to burn the pics.

lilymolly · 22/05/2009 22:39

Never thought about postnatal jelly belly and strechmarks in a bikini

Def NOT going now

We will be doing Ibiza next year with an almost 1 year old and my DD will be 6. (babba is still in the oven)

I've never been but it's my DH's spiritual home and I really really want to take our kids somewhere that means so much to him. It's a beautiful place thats much more than all the brits abroad shite.

We will be down the caff every night!!

Have a lovely time, i'm well jealous!!

Technofairy · 22/05/2009 22:55

Ummm, Es Cana? Where they have the hippy market?? Sorry but avoid, avoid!

We went there for the day and it was awful. Like Blackpool with sun. But that was August! We stayed in Santa Eulalia which was much nicer. I was so glad to get back there.

My experience may well be based on the time of year we visited but you should check out holidaytruths.com, holidaywatchog.com, holidays-uncovered.co.uk to get the full picture on your accommodation and the resort.

I would recommend Atlas Apartments in Santa Eulalia. Basic but good. I would go back tomorrow. Ibiza is a lovely island but in my experience Es Cana is more like San Antonio than you might think.

luvoneson · 22/05/2009 23:25

Go for it, the price sounds good. Ibiza is lovely, I went when i was younger and now I go for family holidays with my DH and DS, It is a beautiful island. It does get very hot in the summer which could be a worry for the kids but if you have air con should be fine. I took DS to Lanzarote when he was six weeks old and I was travelling alone with him, did the same when he was 10 months old. It was no problem whatsover, I just got on with it. You will be fine. ENJOY

LyraSilvertongue · 22/05/2009 23:28

We went to Majorca for two weeks when DS1 was 2 and DS2 was 10 weeks.
We had a lovely time but it was difficult at times. We took the moses basket and popped it on top of a chest of drawers. DS2 was exclusively BF at the time so feeding ot a problem.

LyraSilvertongue · 22/05/2009 23:32

I have happy memories of lying on a sunbed with tiny DS2 propped up on my thighs trying to talk to me in that newborn way and charming all the old ladies. He went everywhere in his sling.

lilymolly · 23/05/2009 09:17

technofairy
I have done loads of research on es cana, trip advisor, holiday watchdog etc, and the general consencus is that is seems to be a nice family resort, maybe a little bit cheesy, but nice.

coolma · 23/05/2009 10:09

We went to es cana one august and, yes it was fairly awful, as most places are bang slap in the middle of the school hols! but it depends which hotel you are at I guess. We got a ba-ad room in a bit of a grotty place, so avoided it apart from sleeping and went somewhere else. The children were 8 months and 6, and loved it, so that's the main thing.

glammam · 24/05/2009 08:57

We found a hol in Turkey with our 5mth old son so much easier (with hindsight!) than last year's hol to Spain when he was 14mths. Babies are easy, you just keep them in the shade in the buggy, but our son decided he hated the sand, pool, sea, heat, travel cot and he also got an ear infection as soon as we landed! Hoping this year now he's over 2 he'll enjoy things a bit more if we manage to go away.
Think you should not worry and just go for it, your baby won't know anything about it as they'll be safely in the shade and breastfed so no germs breeding in bottles etc. Although, you can get that Milton sterilising solution for when you're away to make sterilising easy.
Hope you all have a lovely time!!
