In thinking clothing shops always seem to have a nicer range for girls than for boys?

I have spent this morning searching for some summer clothes for DS2 who is 2 and I cant find anything I like, but I can find masses of stuff for DD.

All the boys clothes seem to have skulls and skateboards, or 'cheeky monkey' (yuck)

Twice as much stuff for girls for sure - not always nicer though. Some girls' stuff is utter (fuchsia) cack.

nickytwotimes · 22/05/2009 19:27

The 'cheeky monkey' stuff drives me nuts too.
Yanbu, though tbh I can't stand the acres of pink that seems to be the only option for little girls.

KingRolo · 22/05/2009 19:31

I was shopping today too and can still see pink if I close my eyes. It's no better for girls; lots of stuff, yes, but most of it is vile.

I suppose it depends on the shops you go in though. I was in George unfortunately, bit of a crisis purchase. Might be different in JoJo Maman Bebe.

southeastastra · 22/05/2009 19:33

agree with you. got some nice stripey tops for my son, but that was about it!

don't want skulls, skateboarding or football tops.

thisisyesterday · 22/05/2009 19:34

nightmare isn't it?
we almost always stick to gap and boden now (when we have money off vouchers lol)

actually Boots are not too bad, and I got a few things in h&m recently

dawntigga · 22/05/2009 19:34

Absofreakinglutely - you only have to look at the space devoted to the male population to see there is a gap!

Peacocks aren't as bad as most though.

tesco have some nice ones
and M&S

thisisyesterday · 22/05/2009 19:35

mino mode at boots

Dumbledoresgirl · 22/05/2009 19:35

I don't know that they always have nicer things for girls. I have recently looked in John Lewis and M&S for clothes for my dd and was totally repelled by all they had whereas there were some lovely things for boys.

TheCrackFox · 22/05/2009 19:36

H and M have nice stuff.

TBH I noticed at DH2s nursery the other day that every single girl (15 girls) were wearing pink and they all had pink coats. It was a bit weird. I think girls clothes seem to be lots of choice so long as its pink.

NorbertDentressangle · 22/05/2009 19:38

Vertbaudet used to be really good for boys things but even they seem to have turned towards the logos/writing etc on a lot of their things recently.

southeastastra · 22/05/2009 19:40

m & s are nice for smarter boys clothes. ds has some lovely shirts from there, but everyday is hard to find.

oldspotraver · 22/05/2009 20:17

Boots have a lovely new range in and Sainsburys last week had a load of new t-shirts without the silly slogans/monkeys/skulls

BigBellasBeerBelly · 22/05/2009 20:22

I always think the boys clothes are nicer than the girls

ExtraFancy · 22/05/2009 20:34

Lots of lovely stuff in Next - reds, bright turquoise, even some yellow shorts/t-shirts! I got my DS (21mo) a lovely bright blue v-neck cardigan and some red shorts

blametheparents · 22/05/2009 20:37

H&M is often good
Some great stripy t-shirts for boys
i love bold stripes on little boys

traceybath · 22/05/2009 20:41

I rate gap although whatever happened to their good sales? Grazia magazine have got a discount coupon in there this week for 30% off.

Boden - again with discount code.

Ralph Lauren polo but only from bicester village where i've bought shirts for £4.99 which are fab.

And agree H&M for plain/stripey t-shirts.

Am currently pregnant with dc3 who is apparently a girl according to scan - must say looking forward to girl shopping as there certainly appears more variety.

Frasersmum123 · 22/05/2009 20:47

I agree with with Gap and H&M being good for boys, but if only they had UK online shops

YABU, danish brand Katvig do the really lovely boy stuff as well as Gap and Boden and TU at Sainsburys sometimes has some ok stuff.
I find it must easier to dress ds than dd as not things are mush easier to match up. boys just need some good 3/4 length denim shorts and loads of funky t shirts and some hoodies. Now if you said shoes i'd say YANBU.

oldspotraver · 22/05/2009 21:10

I noticed in Boots they have several designs that are very similar to Marese and Oilily designs I had bought at a fraction of the cost.

mumto3boys · 22/05/2009 22:03

YANBU. Our tesco have 4 rails for girls, 2 for boys!

Went to Matalan yesterday, again 3/4 was girls and 1/4 boys.

Even down to pjs. In Matalan there was a choice of Power Rangers at about £8 a pair or a 2 pack of football designs. Girls there were at least 5 different designs, plus nighties as well.

The boys shoes in Tesco have a tiny bit ar the end of one of the rails, ther girls have over half a rail.

Although I can't say the girls clothes look particularly appealing, its all PINK!!

This summer my boys have done well from Primark - loads of t-shirts with ok designs and no awful writing

underpaidandoverworked · 22/05/2009 23:53

After having 2 dd, hate shopping for ds . Crap choice, never have the size I want - oh, by the way, DESIGNERS TAKE NOTE, almost 5yr olds don't want the 'cute' slogans that make us go 'aahhh' on babies . Should turn my talents from cm to clothes designer... [GRIN]

Almost like boys don't need fashionable clothes ..........

BTW - can never find anything in Primark

frazzledgirl · 23/05/2009 09:01

The clothes in my local H&M for boys over 18 months are VILE - rubbish cartoon characters, martial arts style stuff, pink tops more suited to clubbing... the baby range is gorgeous, to add insult to injury

HappyMummyOfOne · 23/05/2009 13:27

I shop by mail order and Next and Debenhams seems to have a pretty even range online whereas its more noticible in stores when uneven.

Matalan is very poor for boys clothes I noticed when I popped in recently - about two rows of clothes compared to the many isles of girls clothes.

luvoneson · 23/05/2009 13:39

Totally agree with you. I hate the skateboard/skull stuff too. looks so cheap. Why dont you try ZARA KIDS really nice tasteful clothes at a reasonable price. I always get my DS clothes from there.
