Or rather would I be unreasonable as I haven't done so yet.

There is a little boy in my daughter's nursery class who is picked up by his dad and his baby sister (and an older woman who looks like a grandmother possibly) every day. Every day they drive past me with the baby sat in the lap of her grandmother and the little boy stood in the back between the two front seats.

Every day. There is one car seat in the car but I've never seen it used. The road they drive along is an accident blackspot (4 nasty crashes in the 18 months we've lived here).

The thought occurred to me the other day that if something were to happen to this little lad and his sister I'd actually feel quite responsible as I'd not done anything to try to prevent it.

I should add that the dad is very quiet and never speaks to any of the other parents so I can't think of a way I could try and subtly talk to him about this myself.

Should I speak to the school? A community police officer? It's not like I want them prosecuted but I wonder whether a quiet word from someone in authority might do the trick?

Speak to the school

When my ds was in nursery they had a child seat safety day, and called all parents in at the end to watch 5min video of an accident at 30 mph
Even the children in the nursery if they are warned of the dangers they will say to parents, I know my dcs say to us if we haven't put our seat belts on by the time we get to end of the driveway

I am neurotic about seatbelts because when i was six my friends brother was driving me home from school in his Morris Traveller, i was in the back seat. (No belts, front seats tip up not fixed to the floor) he went round a corner on a country lane and met a tractor in the middle of the road, he slammed on the brakes and i went sailing off the back seat with the seat and shot forward and hit my head on the dashboard! I know how lucky I am to be alive and always make sure my ds is strapped in properly. People wouldnt leave their best china loose on the back seat of the car so why do they let their children??

Ask your local police officer to come and visit the school when the parents are picking up so he/she can hand out leaflets on car safety.
If this dad is just ignorant then he will take the leaflet. If he legs it then he knows he's breaking the law!
