Because with my big baby belly I'm kind of struggling to reach it

depends if he's the green fingered type

Stretch · 21/05/2009 13:59

Get a gardener in. You don't want your topiary to be lopsided, do you?

just make sure he doesn't get out the Black and Decker hedge trimmer - could end badly

Stretch · 21/05/2009 14:02

Depends what animal you want it sculpted into..

memoo · 21/05/2009 14:05

Maybe I could ask him to shape it into a love heart

shineon, if I hadn't been so good at keeping up the pruning all these years my bush would most definately be backing onto neighbours property

Or.....what about tiger stripes!!!

memoo · 21/05/2009 14:10

One of our neighbours has their bush trimmed into a peacock- it's lovely, and certainly a talking point...

Maybe I could get a man in if DP is unwilling, I've heard of a local guy who's prices are quite reasonable

Does said handyman come with his own .....erm.... equipment? And make sure you ask for references. Maybe he could show you photos of his previous work

memoo · 21/05/2009 15:37

omg, the ambiguousness of this whole thread is awesome, rofl.

I'd pay a professional.. your DP's hand might not be steady enough and goodness knows what he might accidentally chop off!

TheMitsubishiWarrioress · 21/05/2009 16:02

Well.. there is nothing like a nicely trimmed bush, your DP could do it in the 'privetsy' of your own garden.....

memoo · 21/05/2009 16:44

Mitsubishi, I have always take such care to ensure my bush is neatly pruned and it sadens me to think of it becoming all overgrown and unloved

bella39 · 21/05/2009 16:52

Only a spring flowering one, like a Forsythia, should be pruned now.

Have you got a Buddleia? If so, leave well alone.

Don't want to lose your flower do you?

BitOfFun · 21/05/2009 16:57

Beware though that too bare a bush may inhibit nesting...

memoo · 21/05/2009 17:04

crikey bella, you're far more knowledgable on this subject that I.

I'm not sure if its a spring flowering one, I can't even see it properly to check.

Must get my hand mirror out.

Just be careful - you have to be particularly careful with pussy willow.

Portofino · 21/05/2009 17:16

My dh actually offered to do mine! It made him all excited, Men are indeed strange beasts,

memoo · 21/05/2009 17:17

How about a lattice effect?
