my son likes to dress up in his spidermam costume when ever we go anywhere, for example publix, or the mall. So recently i decided not to allow him to wear it out in public anymore and he just wouldn't stop crying i dont know what to do

I'd say let him dress as spiderman as often as he likes, my 6 year old nephew has walked around dressed as Ben10 fourarms for quite some time now (was Ben10 the year before but he 'upgraded' lol), along with the Ben10 watch, his pirate eye patch and everything that comes along with it Fab at family parties even more fun walking through Tescos
Hes the cutest little one ever

Enjoy it while it lasts!I look back with fondness to the year when my (now 13 year old) went to preschool as Batman every day, also his brother asking for a plastic batman cavern from Argos for his 5th Birthday, set us back all of £4!

Indaba · 25/05/2009 20:48

let him wear it
next month he'll hate and grow out of dressing up
no harm done

luvoneson · 25/05/2009 21:01

I wouldnt let DS wear it out in public unless it was for a party. A kiddy play suit has its place and thats not out and about doing shopping etc. Dont allow spider man/power rangers quilt sets and curtains either. Can't bare all that stuff. Am I horrid?

SerendipitousHarlot · 25/05/2009 22:06

Erm, luvsoneson, why, yes you are.

A friend of mine couldn't understand why her ds was so hot in bed. The she realised he was wearing his Spiderman costume under his school uniform which was under his pyjamas

I initially read that as her DH, and "hot in bed" had a different meaning, was v v bemusing.

Yurtgirl · 25/05/2009 22:11

Martharocks1011 - I would let him wear it sometimes and negotiate 'sensible' clothing at other times

I not that this is your first post.......

luvoneson · 25/05/2009 22:12

omg feel bad now. Perhaps should chill out a bit, get spiderman suit for ds and a matching one for me.

chegirl · 25/05/2009 22:13

Weeeellll,
MY DS2 loves to dress up and I do encourage it. He has loads of outfits. I am not embarressed about him wearing them out. The do get a bit ming though. They are mostly horrible nylon and have to be peeled off him (eventually) and put in the wash.

BUT he definately behaves worse when he wears his batman and spiderman costumes. He cannot yet tell real from fantasy so thinks he IS a superhero and behaves accordingly. Alas this does not mean he saves people from burning buildings, more that he leaps on furniture, alarms the dog and generally makes a nuisance out of himself.

He thinks he is superman at the moment and I am not buying him a superman suit because I am seriously worried he will try and fly.

So YANBU in some circumstances. I wouldnt let DS wear his to the supermarket but I would if we were going to the park

StealthPolarBear · 25/05/2009 22:16

There's a little boy at DS's nursery who always seems to be wearing a tigger suit - very cute

MaureenMLove · 25/05/2009 22:18

Oh it's lovely seeing littlies in their dress up! I used to childmind a boy who would never take his spiderman outfit off either. I figured it was slightly less embarrassing that the phase he had of wearing a purple plastic plant pot on his head, whereever we went! I kid you not!

psychomum5 · 25/05/2009 22:20

of course you are not being unreasonable.

he should be dressing up as batman!!

lets be honest, batman is far superior to spidey

ChippingIn · 25/05/2009 22:24

LOL - I guess I am more 'strict' (less fun) than you lot! Little ones dress up all the time at home, but they don't have meals in their many and varied fairy princess dresses nor do they wear them out of the house - it's the way it is in our house and they've never thought to question it! LOL so all's good

NormaSknockers · 25/05/2009 22:32

YABU - it's lovely seeing LO's dressed up & in years to come you'll look back & smile about the 'Spiderman phase' with fondness.

DD has gone to nursery/nannies/shops dressed as a fimble/princess/thunderbird on many occassion - at least she's dressed

raisingrrrl · 25/05/2009 22:41

My ds wears his sparkly fairy wings, Muppet show pyjamas and dinosaur wellies all the time. He is nothing if not diverse! I make him get changed out of his pyjamas to go out, but he wears his fairy wings and wellies over the top of whatever else he's wearing!

YABU - and a bit odd...

NormaSknockers · 25/05/2009 22:52

raisin your DS sounds so cute!! My DD is forever putting sparkly fairy wings on DS - he seems happy enough to dress up with her - not that his great grandad approves as he's convinced it will turn him gay
