Kwikfit exhaust

Back box of DH1s exhaust just went splat so off to Kwikfit he goes, he had a guarantee that the last owner of the car had paid over £200 for work on this and the parts should have been covered by this as it is within the 3 years of the guarantee but NO the guarantee it would seem only last while the person who had it done owns the car!!!

Oh so I know they do this with break pads but an exhaust is something different, its not something that is going to be changed every year, surly if they are covering the part it should be covered no mater who has the car.

So DH1 shells out £150 and says to the bloke so if I sold my car tomorrow and the back box fell off on Thursday would the new owner have to pay for a new one? And the chap says Yep thats right...WTF.

Sounds about right - the policy you have normally just covers your car.

SoupDragon · 19/05/2009 20:53

I think this is common. The guarantee is valid only for the purchaser of the item. I think it's the same with most things and, technically, a gift is only guaranteed for the purchaser, not the recipient.

Kimi · 19/05/2009 20:56

Just seems odd that if the work done is covered for 3 years it should be covered no matter who owns the car.

The part is either covered or it is not covered

Their T&C do state that "The guarantees are not transferable and apply only to the person who purchased the original parts."

Kwik Fit are, IME, a bunch of w*nkers though. I hate them with a vengeance.

I can understand the life time guarantee on break pads and disc's while you own the car (most people can fit disc and pads) but on something like an exhaust I think should be covered for some amount of time.

Its really stupid to say that if the car was sold tomorrow and it fell off who ever owned the car then would have to pay for another new one just plain stupid

It is covered for that owner the garage does not know what work someone else may have done in between owners. The moral of your story is go to an independant garage and not get ripped off on the price to start with.

mermaidspurse · 19/05/2009 21:11

Most people should not be able to fit discs and pads, your brakes are vital and should be done by a trained mechanic.

SoupDragon · 19/05/2009 21:13

The fault lies with the previous owner who lead your DH to believe the guarantee was transferable.
