£25 per person each way. Yippe, I thought. 200 quid to go skiing next Feb. TUrned out to be 600, after all the taxes, fees and farting about. Am furious. Bastards.

i get REALLY annoyed at people who bring ridiculous amounts of luggage into the cabin & wish the staff would make them leave it behind. honestly, some people have a small suitcase, a laptop in a bag, a handbag big enough to house a country, bags of duty free and other carrier bags with them. they then tut that they don't have enough space.

personally, i'm of the opinion, that you should pay a fee for cost of flights & taxes, then turn up with all your luggage, whether hand luggage or checked, then have extra money added for the total weight, including yur passengers. every pound in weight costs pounds in fuel, whether it's in the cabin or hold. wheel chairs & pushchairs could be exempt.

if you want the really cheap flights, you have to be prepared to travel at 3 am, during term time, to an airport about 50 miles from the destination city.

i agree with you with regards kluggage but not the weight of the passengers.

HolyGuacamole · 19/05/2009 11:07

Don't agree with charging passengers for their body weight

In Canada, larger people get a free second seat although I don't agree with that either.

Ryan air changed our flights to Venice next week twice, first the outward flight was changed by a whole day, and then they changed both flights to times that were impossible with 3 children! we cancelled them and are now flying to Nice with easyjet, which is way cheaper!!

HolyGuacamole · 19/05/2009 11:17

I also read a while ago that Ryanair were going to charge ?1.20 to use the bathroom on the plane!!!

flowerybeanbag · 19/05/2009 11:18

Last time I flew with Ryanair they charged X amount for checking in each piece of luggage, and X amount for not checking in any luggage. Don't know if they still do that, but DH assures me that ought to be illegal, as if they advertise a flight as a price, it must technically be possible to get the flight for that price.

MorrisZapp · 19/05/2009 16:26

Exactly. It's not a quibble about the overall fare - ppl can choose to fly with somebody else if they don't like the overall fare.

It's the lack of transparency that annoys people and is illegal. If you aren't allowed to fly without doing x, then x should be part of the advertsised fare, and not an 'extra'.

It's exactly the same issue as these concert tickets that carry mandatory 'booking fees'. If you can't buy the ticket without the fee, then it should be included in advertised ticket price.

mcdugger,I second every tip that you posted.we also had a flight for 1p recently to barcelona for six of us ,and that was the total price ,no hidden taxes. The only thing that was extra was the baggage to go in the hold.Def everyone do your checking in on-line or it will cost you extra. Also be very careful that you spell all the names correctly.my dh booked for my brother and left one initial out,the check in clerk had to make a call to see if we could fly without paying a lot of money.Luckily we did that time.
