To think that £60 pppn is not a lot for a 4* hotel in city centre?

Am trying to organise my hen do which is consisting of a meal and some drinks and then a night in a hotel. Have found it very difficult to get accommodation as it is in Edinburgh at festival time and we need something central so we don't need to worry about taxis. Have tried lastminute, hotels.com, b and b's, travelodge, and private apartments, when I finally found a lovely hotel which is bang slap in the centre opposite the restaurant for the above price. When I asked one of my friends what she thought she said it seemed a bit much.
I'm a bit miffed as the place and date has been arranged for ages and we all knew we would have to pay for accommodation - I think the price is pretty reasonable as we are only staying one night. Her excuse is that she is going to New York in June and needs money for that!
I feel a bit hurt as I am only going to be having one hen night and thought she would prefer to spend a little extra on that as opposed to NY trip. I am stumped as to where else to look and don't really want to as I'm happy with it!

Also not until August so plenty of time for her to save up?

I was feeling sympathetic to your friend - til I read about the New York trip! Yanbu.

book yourself into the hotel and send her the phone number for a youth hostel?

you're not going to get anything more than a hostel for less than sixty quid.

hf128219 · 16/05/2009 19:25

Where are you staying?

FromGirders · 16/05/2009 19:25

I've struggled in the past to find anything cheaper than that. However, did go to one hotel where we were three in a room and that was cheaper - no breakfast or anything though, so ended up the same in teh long run.
DH went to a stag in Edinburgh a while back, and they hired a flat for the weekend instead - was cheaper and more relaxed as they spent quite a lot of the weekend vegging.

TheCrackFox · 16/05/2009 19:34

What hotel is it? Complete bargain for Edinburgh during the Festival.

Am getting ready to be shot down, but not everyone is totally up for hen do's. Even when you've been friends for ages. If your friend just isn't that keen, then it's understandable that she would rather spend her money on a trip to NY than on your hen night. Just one of those things...

But the hotel is a fab price

Mamazon · 16/05/2009 19:44

book the hen night you want. if someone choses not to come then thats up to them.

caramelwaffle · 16/05/2009 19:49

That is an absolutly fabulous price. Book your hen night. Whoever decides to turn up for you, will turn up.

clamchowder · 16/05/2009 19:50

It's the Roxburghe. So was quite chuffed at the find! Only catch is that you have to pay at time of booking, rather than on departure. I am quite happy to put it on my credit card and let everyone pay me back.
I do realise that not everyone is up for hen do's, but it won't be all L plates and strippers, it's just more of a get together of friends. She is always out every weekend, goes to festivals, has just come back from a trip to Cornwall, so she's a bit of a party girl and also obviously has enough money to do these other things. I think what's grating me is that I haven't had a night out for about 2 years! No joke! And I don't have much money either as I am a SAHM, but it's my hen night and I will only do it once so don't mind spending a bit. I just felt that as a very good and close friend she would have realised that it is a real one off for me!

  • please do excuse the spelling and grammer - am enjoying a glass of vino. But yes; do tell us which hotel it is. That is a fab price.
oranges · 16/05/2009 19:53

It's a perfectly reasonable price for a hotel, and of course you should have a lovely night out, but its totally understandable if someone doesn't want to pay that for a hen do. just ask people to give you an answer by a certain date and book for whoever wants a room. Others can sort themselves out. Organising hotels for a lot of people is a nightmare.

TheCrackFox · 16/05/2009 19:53

The Roxburghe is in a great location. Just book it and if she doesn't want to come that is her loss.

I am going on a Hen night soon and it is just going to really be a weekend away. No "L" plates, strippers or any other crap.

hf128219 · 16/05/2009 20:02

I had my wedding reception there in 1995 - raise a glass to us!

clamchowder · 16/05/2009 20:16

Thanks gals! My dp has just come in and also thinks that is an amazing price! Do you think I should ask her what her budget would be or shall I just leave it and book it up and see if she decides to come?

I would just book it - it's a great rate. This place is also meant to be nice www.dunstane-hotel-edinburgh.co.uk/

Have a fab weekend and a wonderful wedding!

TheCrackFox · 16/05/2009 20:29

The Dunstane is nice but it is a 20 minute bus journey into town. Stick with the Roxburgh, you won't have to faff about with taxis - which are a nightmare to find during the festival.

hf128219 · 16/05/2009 20:32

Maybe her friend could stay there? But she might miss the festivities

TheCrackFox · 16/05/2009 20:45

i like your style hf128219

fledtoscotland · 16/05/2009 20:48

YANBU the roxburgh is lovely. enjoy your hen night and if she wants to stay 20mins away, give her the bus fare

skramble · 16/05/2009 20:49

60 PPpn during festival is well ggod, you are lucky to get a fecking room never mind the price.
