to complain about my post going missing?

My regular postie has been off sick for a few weeks. We've had temp posties, but unfortunately they have a habit of confusing our street name with the name a street right next to ours. It is similar, only 4 characters difference, so I can see why they get it confused.

I only became aware of the extent to which my post has been going missing when anxiously awaiting a response about funding from Uni, perhaps containing a cheque. They told me they'd sent the letter from within the city I live, first class on Tuesday. Friday is the ONLY day the post has been delivered and I got a letter for the other street Also gone astray has been a parcel, assumed lost but probably nicked by my neighbour who's been receiving my post.

I finally get hold of my neighbour who has been receiveing my post and she's been sitting on my tax credits renewal pack. She says she'll have a look through and see what post is mine and return it to me... I have my doubts.

I really worried, how much of my post have they been getting? With things like tax credits information, cheques and parcels they could easily steal my identity.

I know my postie has been sick and it must be confusing for the temps to figure out which street it is, but this is bloody serious stuff that's gone missing. Things that affect my finances.

I think I ought to make an official complaint, I'm livid, but am I likely to find all my fragile post arriving in pieces after I do? I've had friends work at the post office, I've heard some baaaaaaad stories about the "pranks" that happen.

What do you think ladies?

I think you should complain. I wouldn't worry too much about the neighbours pulling any fast ones, after all you know where they live.

However, I was sure before I clicked that this was about a Mumsnet post going missing/being deleted!

Go round to her house and say if she doesn't give you your post you will be calling the police.

"Go round to her house and say if she doesn't give you your post you will be calling the police."

Believe me, I'm tempted.

Do it then.

It is an offense to open or keep post that is not meant for you.

FabulousBakerGirl · 16/05/2009 19:47

Exactly.

Thanks gals, I feel emboldened to sort this out.

Are you going round today?

I work as a postie. Contact the delivery office and explain the situation. In our office if someone complains that their mail is being confused with another address a notice is left on the sorting frame to tell whoever is sorting that they should double check mail for these addresses. Hopefully this will help.
