Ive just found out that im having a beautiful baby girl so now i can really start to think about names and im soooooo excited!!!!!!

I really like how in twilight bella names her daughter renesmee after her mum and edwards mum, its such a beautiful tribute to the women who raised them. Id like to acknowledge our mums in our baby girls name but im not very good at creative stuff so i thought i would ask you ladys coz i know some of you do creative writing and stuff.

My mum is kathy short for katherine and hubbys mum is called sylvia do you have any ideas?

Oh, and congrats on your impending new DD!

PfftTheMagicDragon · 11/05/2009 22:15

Thing is though, little Bella and Eddie.....They aren't real! Is this a shock? My point being, that that name...it wasn't a tribute to "the women who had raised them" it was a created name by the writer who said that she had to think up something suitably not-normal for a character that was the same.

I repeat.....not real.

TrillianAstra · 11/05/2009 22:32

Pfft I think you get the prize, that is the best reponse so far. for 'little Bella and Eddie'

PMSL at Gaviscon too.

Oh, and don't worry, it's not real. But well done for coming up with actual nice-sounding names. I am now convinced that Mumsnet is the source of all wisdom, as you are able to simultaneously take the piss and to come up with viable suggestions (Katya wins I think) so this poor child's life is not ruined.

Mumsnetters: I salute you!

Kylverine?
Kylvia

frazzledgirl · 12/05/2009 07:08

Congrats and on your impending DD!

And I think Katya is a lovely name.

BUT also have to agree with whichever wise poster said the fourth Twilight book ruined the whole series. I thought Renesmee was such a vile stupid trailer-trash name that I am still cross with the author...

MrsHappy · 12/05/2009 08:48

LOL @ Kylverine

Is that Wolverine's sister?

babyignoramus · 12/05/2009 09:13

Pfft. Not real??

OP, I thought you were going to suggest naming the baby after one of the characters and thought that was a bit tragic until I realised I first heard DS's name in a film .

If I were you I'd give your DD Katherine Sylvia as two middle names - otherwise you'll just cause a ruck because you've chosen one to come first!

PfftTheMagicDragon · 12/05/2009 10:09

I think that there is nothing wrong with using fiction or culture as inspiration (although I do think twilight might fail on the latter). I have done it myself with middle names for my children.

Made up portmanteaus are ....well....crap. And tacky. And they just sound ridiculous! I mean, there is nothing wrong with Katya, but that's just coincidence, it happens to be a legitimate name.

If we were talking Kylvia or Sathy, then, just because it's made up of names that belong to people close to you, doesn't make it right.....
