to expect ASDA to take it off their shelves?

Our local ASDA has a "pocket Money" section. My DS age 6 bought a "stretchy lizard" for a £1. It said you can pull it, twist it, stretch it ect. He did, and the bloody thing burst and covered his trousers with a clear glue like substance. I took the toy back a few days ago and got a refund. I was told they would "look into it". But today, I still see them on the shelf. Is this worth a note to head office?

Yes. Children might eat/drink the gooey stuff and make themselves ill.

YANBU

Sorry, YANBU. My yes was to whether it was worth a note to head office.

You are definately NBU - BUT don't expect anything more than a bog standard "thanks for letting us know, sorry for any inconvenience" letter and if you're lucky a £5 gift card.

I bought chicken from them on 3 separate occasions that was off and thats all I got -they couldn't of cared less about the safety issue...

Might be worth complaining to Head Office - as it's a product aimed specifically at children I think there is more leglisation around it.

Contact your local Trading Standards, via the council.

I took a purse back as it broek after a few days and when I was given a refund, here is your gift card with £3.50 on. It isn't the money, though i am sick of wasting money so thought I would get it back this time,it is the principle but I am certain nothing will happen.

Children's toys, if faulty like this should be subject to am immediate product recall. As Edam said, contact TRading Standards.

Baisey · 11/05/2009 11:38

Childrens toys will only be subjected to product recall if a certain amount of the same product has been returned with the same fault, it will certainly take more than a few days. If a returns pattern is occuring then stores with place a "quarantine" on the product whilst head office look into the fault and decide whether a product recall is needed.
Unfortunatly with it being a £1 toy you'll find not alot of people would bother to return it and then the head office would not be made aware of a fault.
The gooey stuff will most likely not harm your child as they wouldnt be allowed to sell toxic substances in childrens toys.
YANBU to be annoyed about the product breaking but give the product recall some time you never know, the head office might be doing their tests right now!

Toddlerama bought some tights in ASDA the other day for her DS that had clearly been worn and washed and re-packaged. She didn't think too much of it as they were on £2.50, but I was outraged. I think she should have demanded money back and/or fresh tights!

Sadly you are right though Boys2mam, she probably wouldn't have got anything if she had complained...
