to simply eat ice cream for the next three days (tooth extraction!)

Just had tooth removed.

My dentist is an ex partner of mine and is lovely but, I kinda wish I hadn't trusted him when he told me that the extraction would be 'very eay and quick'. Yep because 8 injections and 1 hour of tugging tells you that it so was anything but easy and quick!

Anyway, I have no idea what I really want to/can eat other then .... ice cream

If anyone has any ideas then please feel free otherwise, please state your fave ice cream flavour. My freezer is full of Twister chocos at the moment but I reckon a trip to Iceland and a little diversity is probably the way forward.

I had my tooth out the other week. Horrid, no matter how much anaesthetic you have.

Don't be tempted to put the cold ice cream where your tooth used to be! Very hot and very cold things will HURT!

I found soft things like porridge, scrambled egg, omelette, soup, soft bread etc were good for the first few days. Nothing scratchy or hard. Fortunately chocolate truffles are pretty soft.

Also, don't make my mistake and try and chew food while your face is still numb. I ended up biting (and presumably swallowing?) a large chunk out of my cheek which caused more pain and problems with eating over the following week than the bloomin' empty tooth socket.

Thank you grendel - some really good tips.

I am still numb at moment and haven't eaten anything yet so will take your advice and wait a little longer.

lol re chocolate truffles. I purchased a Galaxy bar for later on. It was my 'reward' for being so unbelievably brave

Thanks littleducks ... sorry to have posted this when you still have to have your teeth removed.

I'd stick to liquidy stuff like ice cream and soup. My DH got some food stuck in the socket after a recent extraction and his breath stank - and it make the gum sore and he had to go and have it cleaned out...

BrokenFlipFlop · 08/05/2009 16:27

thanks

Does anyone know what I am supoosed to do with it this eve ie I realise I can't gargle but will it not smell 'off' by tomorrow??

southeastastra · 08/05/2009 16:38

no you'll be fine, just make sure you eat on the opposite side and have liquid food. don't gargle, rinse or anything

BrokenFlipFlop · 08/05/2009 16:50

thanks guys - will go and find some soup.

I had the roots of a tooth out (the remains the butcher dentist from 3 years ago left). Like you many many injections as they just wern't taking then finally had to have a piece of bone drilled out

I would get a decent mouthwash and food will very easily get into the hole, also something like bonjela rubbed on the gums will help. My gum is still sore in places and the stitches started to irritate after a week. My dentist also cut/ripped my mouth at the side form stretching it open so much and that was horrid as it kept on crusting over like cold sore and looked like I had one as well

Apart foem that, lotsa co-codamol or codeine if you have it

BrokenFlipFlop · 08/05/2009 18:11

Good lord oldspotraver ... that all sounds awful.

I do have a decent mouthwash although I know I can't use it yet.

The numbness is begining to fade and so I've prepared myself by taking some ibuprofen (super strong!). Codiene tends to make me sick unfortunatley but I appreciate your advicde.

Thanks
