would you do it?

nkf · 07/05/2009 19:03

I've done it but only things like a couple of pieces of fruit.

MaureenMLove · 07/05/2009 19:04

I did it at Euro Disney. Stocked up on rolls for on-the-go lunches!

Greensneeze · 07/05/2009 19:04

my MIL does it

She's LOADED as well, she just can't help herself

we were on the beach with my boys a few weeks ago and they were complaining they were hungry - I was about to tell them to stop bleating and wait, when she produced all these croissants and bacon butties out of her pockets

according to dh she used to empty the restaurant bread basket into her handbag before leaving a restaurant too, when he was a child

YorkshireRose · 07/05/2009 19:06

No. It's cheap and causes higher prices for all the honest people.

Morloth · 07/05/2009 19:10

I do usually grab an extra roll or a piece of fruit if I know we are going to be out and about.

Didn't occur to me that it would be a problem to be honest.

BernardsCat · 07/05/2009 19:13

Oh we have had this before. it ran and ran

piscesmoon · 07/05/2009 19:14

I have done it but I was a poor student and couldn't afford lunch-I don't think it is fair to do it now.

Greensneeze · 07/05/2009 19:15

I think I wouldn't do it, generally (I haven't in the past) but I could see myself doing it if I felt the hotel had ripped me off.

namebacon · 07/05/2009 19:15

I repeat what I posted on your other thread when you asked whether it was OK to book a 2 hotel and use the 5 pool

No, that's perfectly acceptable behaviour

whilst your at it, don't forget to pay only for bed and breakfast but nick loads of rolls and ham and cheese and yoghurt off the breakfast buffet for your lunch.

Also, drink all the drinks out of the mini-bar and replace the vodka/gin drinks with water and the whisky/rum drinks with vinegar so it looks like you havent had any and won't be charged for them.

Finally, don't forget to take the towels, soap, shampoo, sewing kit, shoe cleaning kit, stationery, and batteries out of the remote control when you leave.

MadameCastafiore · 07/05/2009 19:15

Why on earth would you?

nkf · 07/05/2009 19:16

Those hotel breakfasts are so expensive though. I guess customers are paying for the buffet. Effectively they are paying for waste. I love the idea of a granny with bacon butties around in her handbag though. It makes me laugh.

mollyroger · 07/05/2009 19:16

oh wow, is it this time of year again already? Doesn't time fly?

fircone · 07/05/2009 19:17

Taking a croissant/bagel with you that you might have eaten there anyway is ok.

Shovelling heaps of food into your bag is not on. What if the people who breakfast at 7am nicked half the buffet?

BernardsCat · 07/05/2009 19:17

lol
oi molly
check out me AIBU

Greensneeze · 07/05/2009 19:17

it made me laugh too

CherryChoc · 07/05/2009 19:18

I did a bit - I picked up a banana from the included (NOT free!) breakfast to give to DS (7mo) for his breakfast. He had about 2 bites and wasn't bothered about the rest so I took it for him to have later.

But I think that is different as it would have been thrown away if I hadn't have taken it.

namebacon · 07/05/2009 19:18

at nkf - the thought of grannies with bacon butties in their handbags might make us laugh, but actually, deli items are supposed to be stored in the fridge until eaten which probably explains an awful lot of upset tummies people suffer from when abroad.

BernardsCat · 07/05/2009 19:18

its our age molly

PuppyMonkey · 07/05/2009 19:19

Ooh I remember the last thread on this. I think I got severely ticked off cos we do it all the time.

oxocube · 07/05/2009 19:22

We do sometimes when we take the ovenight ferry to UK. Prices for the (shitty) buffet breakfast are ridiculous and I am with 3 kids - we are so bored after a 15 hour crossing that we always go to breakfast simply to put in the time. But I often tell the kids to grab a few extra croissants/pastries and an apple as I know they will be hungry an hour later and refuse to pay even more . Actually, even if its not appropriate, I simply don't care

shinyshoes · 07/05/2009 19:22

Go on do it if you're strapped for cash, seriously how much is a couple of rolls to a hotel. I bet it's much less than all the shampoo and soap etc, that people take home with them

I know there will mumsnetters posting after me saying that 'if everyone did this yadda yadda yadda.' 'it dishonest'.

You have paid for the food, take a few extra rolls, i'd rather see someone taking a few rolls for their family than it end up in the bin.

I really hate waste.

bigchris · 07/05/2009 19:22

we used to do this all the time at uni in our hall of residence, make jam sandwiches at breakkie to have for lunch cos we were so skint

BernardsCat · 07/05/2009 19:22
