Yes I think it all started with Daphne on Neighbours giving birth within 10 minutes with her tights on.

(Sorry have searched for Youtube clip but failed to deliver... no pun intended).

If you're going to act pregnant, put on some goddamn weight and spend more than an episode in labour!

Did you see Waterloo road? It was pathetic [sigh].

Fimbo · 07/05/2009 18:35

Did you watch Waterloo Road by any chance, last night?

Breech baby, school toilets, delivered in about 10 mins.

Tidey · 07/05/2009 18:35

You never see anyone delivering the placenta either. The baby's born, handed over to miraculously slim mum and that's the end of that.

Fimbo · 07/05/2009 18:36

LOL at x post, at exactly the same time!

the other thing that bugs me is that they are never pregnant for the right length of time. honey in eastenders found out she was pregnant the same week i did and yet had her baby about 2 months before me.

Comewhinewithme · 07/05/2009 18:38

The baby was meant to be prem too .

Funniest one I saw was diagnosis murder when Dr Mark delivered triplets in his house without any complications ...the woman had only popped over for a visit 5 minutes later she was holding 3 babies .

katiestar · 07/05/2009 18:39

On the flip side -Does anyone remember the storyline on East Enders about an Asian woman (Naima ?) who was unable to conceive but played by an actress who was vitually full-term !!

Fimbo · 07/05/2009 18:39

And just how much longer do we need to wait before we start seeing morning sickness a la Heather.

wotulookinat · 07/05/2009 18:40

I saw Waterloo Road - it was a very quick birth, wasn't it?

Picante · 07/05/2009 18:41

Oh no-one gets morning sickness. If they do, they are sick once then it's all forgotten.

And yes I did see Waterloo Road!

I watch waterloo road with the dds. They kept looking at me and asking questions about the birth scene.

Comewhinewithme · 07/05/2009 18:41

Also why does no one just have some pains go to hospital have the baby and come home?

No they have to give birth in a pub during a hostage situation and the MW turns out to be their long lost brother/mother/aunt .

Picante · 07/05/2009 18:43

Oh and waters break dramatically in a public area...

OP posts:
Tidey · 07/05/2009 18:43

Yes, and of course the baby's paternity is usually in question as well.

Northernlurker · 07/05/2009 18:44

The Archers tends to get it right. Ruth made an awful lot of noise delivering her third in an unplanned home delivery with David as midwife, Hayley had a premature baby who stayed in hospital for a reasonable amount of time and Emma Carter had a perfectly uneventful pregnancy (apart from not knowing who the dad was - but it is a soap!)

Compare that to Holby City - where Connie Beauchamp was seen operating right after having a c-section herself! apart from being totally mad that would also be illegal...and poor Daisha compelled to give birth in the corner of a lift in the most unconvincing labour I've seen for some time! She just sat there! And the lift was suspiciously clean - any lift I gave birth in would have been AWASH with blood, fluid and anything else i could manage!

wotulookinat · 07/05/2009 18:44

Wow, yes her waters were pretty amazing last night! Mine never did that - is that normal?

TheCrackFox · 07/05/2009 18:46

The first twinge and they call an ambulance.

Nobody ever seems to labour at home for a day (or 3 in my case) and then go to the hospital by car.

Picante · 07/05/2009 18:48

Ah but ambulance never arrives in time.

Northernlurker · 07/05/2009 18:49

Thecrackfox - Elizabeth on er was quite good - she was enormous, fed up and over due at home. Did a bit of yoga and got things going so sped to hospital and was discharged looking hugely fed up a few hours later, went home, got into actual labour and raced back for the birth of a child who she then breast fed - determinedly though knackered by it! Of course I think Alex Kingston was very pregnant herself at the time of filming so that probably helped with an accurate portrayal.

Comewhinewithme · 07/05/2009 18:51

Roxy on EE made me laugh ok she is about to have a prem baby ,the head is about to crown she decides to have a heart to heart with her sister about sleeping with her ex despite the fact there is a head poking out of her fanjo .

I have to say Sonia's in EE birth was good but that was a few years ago now and they made up for the realistic birth with the stupid adoption storyline !

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 07/05/2009 18:55

I seem to recall a soap birth (long time ago, maybe Susan Tully on Stenders) where the labouring mother asked for a break from labour so she could have a cup of tea. Now that I could empathise with!

Fimbo · 07/05/2009 18:57

And they always look as fresh as a daisy. My hair etc was all over the place when I had dd.

TheCrackFox · 07/05/2009 18:58

The baby always looks about 3 weeks old and never covered in gunk.

FattipuffsandThinnifers · 07/05/2009 19:00

Also the fact that whenever a pregnancy test is positive, it's never "I'm pregnant" but a blithe announcment "we're going to have a baby".

Heather1980 I had the same timeline with Dawn when I was pg with ds. Yep, she gave birth a month or so before me too. Spookily have the same again now with Big Hev (arrggh).
