to wonder why on earth you would book a holiday at a caravan park in the town you live in

Last year we stayed at a caravan park in North Yorkshire and got talking to a lovely helpful lady in a shop there. She said she loves the park we were staying at and often goes there herself. She then said she lives 3 miles away. I have just read another internet forum where someone has asked for advice about another caravan park in the same area we stayed in, and she also said in her posting that she lives in the same town.

Now a hotel I could understand if you were sick of the daily grind, but a self catering caravan break would be no different really to being at home, in fact your home is actually likely to have more mod cons. Could anyone shed any light on why you would do this - maybe I am missing the obvious

Notalone - LOL - if people are offended by this, then AIBU really isn't a good place for them to be!

We had friends who only took their caravan very close to home (about 30 mins away) for years, I could never understand it and they could never understand why I used to wet myself laughing at the thought of going there (myself). This was in a very lovely part of the world, the place in question was very mediocre, on a busier road than they lived on, a crappier beach than the ones they lived near and somewhere close enough that you'd drive to for lunch... odd behaviour.

However, for a number of years we went to a compsite that was only about an hour away (but a different world iyswim) because my (only child) godson loved it, there was lots to do, lots of kids to play with and it was very safe to let him out of sight (all day!!) and his Dad could commute to work so we could stay for weeks!!

I am with you, don't understand it, but agree it's horses for courses!

My friends used to camp st the campsite down the road when their DS was very young. They did it because it was very cheap and they were dead skint.

They used to make a big deal about going camping and drive a VERY long way round so he thought it was a proper holiday. They had great fun and it was all done in very good humour, so no shame now he knows the truth! (He's a teenager now)

YABU as it's nothing to do with you.

10 yrs ago, my DH had menningitis and his recovery was slow.
We took our touring caravan jst 6 miles away and put it on a site for the summer.

We put the 3 kids in the car every Friday and went to the van. We relaxed, spent quality time with the children and let my DH heal, away from tv, and it was a lovely summer.
