DD just had her 18th birthday party, we hired a venue, sorted catering and a cake, organised a DJ etc etc - and got thanks from just ONE friend, ok so it was half and half friens and family and at least everyone went up to DD before they left... but what is the difference between an 18th party and an 8th when we all expect the guests to thank the parent for having them?

Sigh...Rant over....Just feeling old I guess! where did those 18 years go?

(hasten to add at least family came up to us aswell before going )

I think YAB a little U. If anyone should be thanking you, it's your DD.

I agree-it should be DD thanking. It would be nice if the friends did but it is a difficult age, either they don't think of it or they would find it embarrassing. If you don't expect a lot- any thanks are a bonus! Just be pleased it went well.

Why would they thank you - if I were to go to a party I would prob say fab party, but not thank you for having me.

I think if everyone went up to dd before they left, that's fine. An 18th is very different from an 8th!

As long as they said their thanks at the end of the evening - I don't see the need to follow it up.

mumeeee · 03/05/2009 17:26

They said thankyou to your DD. That's fine they don't need to thank you.

yes YABU - they're teenagers. As others have said, if they said directly, or implied, "great party" to your DD that's about as good as it gets (and is great praise indeed!) They've not yet learnt the (very adult) practise of sending you a note of thanks and they're too old to say "thank you for having me". Let it ride. As long as your DD thanked you that's all that matters isn't it?
