I'm hoping you work for a large company and the HR department are not up to speed ...

Otherwise thats seriously crap

(Hope your're ok and YANBU)

monkeypinkmonkey · 02/05/2009 08:34

Bloody hell insensitive boss or what? YANBU speak to your HR dept if you have one.
Hope your better soon.

oranges · 02/05/2009 08:42

did they know how ill you were?

TeaOneSugar · 02/05/2009 09:15

Did you call them to let them know you'd be off sick for a few days?

Sounds insensitive in any case if you collapsed at work, but some companies I've worked for insist you call in sick daily unless you've been signed off, you are considered AWOL otherwise, and the manager has to contact you.

honie · 02/05/2009 09:19

I would be expected to phone in, or to have someone else call if I were unable to, I dont think I would get paid otherwise.

IheartNY · 02/05/2009 12:08

Of course YANBU!
How on earth are you supposed to call in sick when still in hospital attached to drips. You had other things on your mind!

Definitely have a word with HR!

Surely they should have called you or come to see you in hospital? What kind of people are they who don't check up on a colleague's welfare after a situation like that? Even if your colleagues don't consider themselves to be friends, at least your line manager should make a show of giving a sh*t!

BigBellasBeerBelly · 02/05/2009 13:10

The strict letter of the rules normally says you have to phone in sick every day.

However I would expect any normal company, having seen an employee carted off unconcious in an ambulance, to waive this. FFS she could have been dead! Or undergoing major surgery. Or still unconcious.

Lunatic behaviour.

They should have phoned and said, hope you're OK, when you are out of hosptial please can you call us for an update.

Plus if she's in hospital how's she supposed to call in? You're not allowed to use your mobile and if you didn't have the right change/any money then you wouldn't be able to make any calls.

Madness.

SoupDragon · 02/05/2009 13:14

Personally, I would have phoned in when I got home to say I'd got out of hospital and wouldn't be in for a few days. I'm surprised they phoned to see where you were though, it should have been bloody obvious.

Did the person who rang realise what had happened? Was he there/in the same office etc?

I can't believe anyone who knew what had happened what have really done this!

TeaOneSugar · 02/05/2009 14:51

I would have expected them to call you, if you didn't call in, but sensitively under the circumstances, and I certainly wouldn't have expected you in the next day.

YANBU. I bet you work for the public sector, council or something like that.

Hope you are feeling better soon.

BigBellasBeerBelly · 02/05/2009 17:26

Your boss wasn't the loon who was emailing/texting in the middle of the night was he? I remember a thread about that...
