FairLady, did you try any 'methods' for concieve a girl??

AutumnMists · 03/05/2009 21:27

Definitely second the timing thing, worked both times with mine - dd first (conceived week before ovulation) and ds next (conceived on day of ovulation).

As others have said best to be lighthearted about it all just in case

mama2four · 03/05/2009 22:07

i have 4girls,certainly last 3 were woman on top,and sex day before ovulation,i did want girls, could be just chance who knows, ultimatley we all want a healthy baby, boy or girl, but nice to try and get the flavour you'd prefer, good luck.

tinseltot · 03/05/2009 22:21

I have 3 girls and had a definate preferance for wanting a girl each time. That said we didn't do anything at all to try to influence it. We just fucked like bunnies all month each time and bingo! I really think that what will be will be. We are not having any more but i have a strong suspicion that no matter how many i had they would all be lady babies. I reckon dp must have one big, pink, princess party going on in those balls! Not that i'm complaining........!!!

tryingtobemarypoppins · 03/05/2009 22:27

It seems everyone wants girls are the moment!!

y3dmm · 04/05/2009 20:25

Hi Iwantapinkprincess, did you try the methods before when ttc?

What are you doing to chart ovulation timing etc??

fraggletits · 04/05/2009 22:46

hi y3dmm

have you been on www.in-gender.com ?

It's all there.....all the info you could possibly hope for in swaying for your preferred gender!

Sorrento · 04/05/2009 23:15

I know somebody who timed dtd to get a girl and it worked.
I have three girls and am praying for another one so I completely understand how you feel, boys frighten me.

parsley3 · 05/05/2009 13:08

I read an interesting book by Hazel Chesterman Philips - Choose the Sex of Your Baby The Natutal Way. I know that I conceived the boys on/very close to ovulation and my DD around 4 days before.Luck? Maybe and you have to stay light hearted about all this but I think the timing method may influence things. I didn't change my diet in any way. There were also other tips in this book about lowering the sperm count to increase chances of a girl. A friend who had 2 ds's borrowed the book and then had a DD. Another friend who has 2 ds's read it and is pregnant and I'll be really interested to see what arrives.

PigeonPair · 05/05/2009 13:26

I now have 6 friends/friends of friends who have tried the following method. As BarrelofMonkeys says, male sperm is quicker, but dies faster whereas female sperm is slower but longer lasting. Therefore, if you want a girl, have sex just once, two or three days before you ovulate so that by the time the egg is released, the male sperm have hopefully kopped it!! If you want a boy, "do it" loads of times 1 day either side of ovulation. I also have no scientific proof and my obstetrician laughed his head off when I asked him about it but he wasn't laughing when the scan showed I was having a girl - ha ha!! There MUST be something in it!

y3dmm · 07/05/2009 07:56

Thanks sooooooo much! I am loving all these responces that prove doctors wrong!! So many say its pot luck so I was wondering if I was mad to try to sway things! What ever happens they will be much loved!! I have ordered the Hazel Chesterman Philips book from the library, thanks for that, looked at in gender as well, thanks for that also, Parsley, keep me posted on what arrives! Sorrento, boys are sooooo loving don't be scared of them!
Pigeonpair, what a great story so please for you. Did all 6 of your friends concieve what they had planned???

Thanks all so much, really loving these stories, it so interesting how mother nature works!

y3dmm - good luck ! I have just started the cranberry tablets too and my husband the liquorice tablets ! I have 2 ds's and would love a dd but am light hearted about the 'swaying'. I found the in gender web site great, but so much to think about and do ! my husband remains unconvinced but is humouring me ! TBH, I think the timing element is the most important part. Both my DS's were conceived on ovulation day or the day before.

l39 · 07/05/2009 16:59

I don't think it's unreasonable to have a gender preference before conception as long as you will be happy with either sex in the end. But changing your diet seems unscientific to say the least. Surely if diet had any statistical effect then fraternal boy/girl twins would be far outnumbered by boy/boy and girl/girl fraternals. AFAIK (though I'm open to correction by anyone who happens to know the statistics) fraternal twins are more or less equally divided into the three types.

(I've 4 fantastic daughters, currently expecting baby, gender TBD)

l39 · 07/05/2009 17:08

Oh dear, I can't resist pointing this out either - I've read the theory Pigeonpair describes about less frequent sex leading to more daughters. It doesn't apply in my case for any of my conceptions and in fact with the eldest daughter we were having sex between 3 and 7 times a day during all the month she must have been conceived (we were very young and also bored ). Not that one case invalidates that theory. It's all in the statistics.

y3dmm · 07/05/2009 19:04

139 - maybe because not many people attempt the diet?? Maybe because it lowers the number of one gender sperm, not kill them off, so there is still a probability of them implanting????

OP posts:
lazylion · 07/05/2009 20:35

I tried this. I took cranberry tablets, did the diet (can't remember the details), timing and aimed for poor quality sperm. We got a another boy. Must have been lighthearted because I wasn't disapppointed at all when I found out.
I'm pregnant with a girl now, but didn't do anything aiming for this. She was conceived on ovulation day. My conclusion is that none of it works, only based on me though.
Good luck.

l39 · 07/05/2009 21:19

Quote - '139 - maybe because not many people attempt the diet?? Maybe because it lowers the number of one gender sperm, not kill them off, so there is still a probability of them implanting????'

Y3dmm, I don't think you got what I meant. I didn't mean that women who conceived following this particular diet would sway the statistics relating to sex in fraternal twins. I'm sure there aren't enough people trying one diet to do that. I'm saying that women who ovulate 2 eggs are going to be eating the same stuff when both those eggs fertilise (they'd have to fertilise within a day or two of each other surely, eggs don't live that long once released do they?)and so if it made any difference what you are eating, fraternal twins would not be just as likely as either boy/boy or girl/girl twins.
To your second sentence - I did not think any diet was supposed to kill off X or Y sperm specifically, so of course you would still have some fraternal twins produced even if diet did work but over thousands of twin pregnancies they would be rare. And they aren't.

l39 · 07/05/2009 21:22

Drat it left 2 words out!

different sex fraternal twins would not be just as likely as either boy/boy or girl/girl twins.

l39 · 07/05/2009 21:25

for specifically read totally and I think I am too tired to write sentences at the mo!
Y3dmm Hope you aren't thinking I'm attacking you. No offense meant.

y3dmm · 09/05/2009 20:56

Oh dear!! I read Choose the Sex of your Baby by Robin Elise Weiss today who basically says any natural methods working are rubbish!! Think you may be right 139!
