to think that the ocado delivery driver shouldn't ask me if he can leave my shopping outside if I'm not in and he wants to deliver early?

I had a delivery booked for the 7pm - 8pm slot and my mobile rang at 5.30pm and he said he was early. I said I would be home about 6.40pm so he asked if he could just leave it outside my house (at the side of the house) as mine was his last delivery. I think that's a bit wrong as there was chicken etc and not only was it quite warm today but my cats would probably have been in the bags.

I said 'I'd prefer it if you didn't' and fair enough he didn't push it but he was ever so slightly arsey with me when I got home at 6.40ish as I'd said.

I know it's a minor issue really and I'm not too pissed off I just wonder what they're playing at even suggesting it - who wants their groceries left outside on a warm day?

DH used to work for Ocado.

It's not that they're not busy, it's because the deliveries are probably all over the place, so one of your neighbours might have had a delivery around the time he turned up, and he had a few deliveries miles away in the meantime, so probably thought it wasn't worth driving all the way there and all the way back. Some people don't mind (I've got it on my delivery notes that they can deliver early).

I've had shopping left when I've been unavoidably detained and couldn't get home for my delivery slot. The driver rang me to check and gave me a few options including leaving the shopping on the door. I agreed to this because I wasn't going to be long.
The shopping was left in insulated boxes round the side of the house. Even though it was my fault he had to do this, he was polite and courteous and that's what I'd expect from Ocado.

When DH worked for them, they weren't allowed to ask if they could deliver early. Perhaps they've changed their policy now in the interests of being environmentally friendly.

I once heard of another supermarket delivery service, who shall remain nameless, delivering at 2am because he was running late! Maybe you should count yourself lucky

Aw, that's cool, Claire!

My comment could easily have been misconstrued.
