I've been tossing and turning all night as i've got a bad infection near my nail on my ring finger.
Had to take painkillers just to get to sleep.
Ring my local surgery and they say they can't fit me in.
Its bright red and throbbing with a nasty yellow bit and blue edge to it.
I'm just going to see how it goes, but if you were me, would you burst it?
I've put a plaster on it and am waiting for it to pop!
I will go to casualty if i see any red lines of course.
Could a Pharmacist do anything? Or maybe i could ask the vet? Better chance of getting seen ti

I'm pretty sure you have to be seen within 4 hours in A&E.

BiscuitStuffer · 30/04/2009 19:48

I've had loads of those. I would still pop it and antiseptic cream and reassess tomorrow. put a photo on your profile!!

Ripeberry · 30/04/2009 20:23

If you google Paranychia and look at the photo for "acute" that is exactly what it looks like, but yellow bit a bit bigger.
I've got all my medical kit out, sterile swabs, alcohol wipes and dressings.
Need a couple of glasses of wine, up to the max with the paracetamol.

don't lance it .. it may spread the infection and that could end up a whole lot worse than a sore finger!

bath it in hot salty water.. and make the GP see you tomorrow!

kickassangel · 30/04/2009 20:43

is anyone on here hoping she'll video it & post a link on youtube?

a friend of mine once had an infection under the nail & the doc put a spike thorugh her nail. she didn't watch, but apparently the jet of gunk went two feet into the air.

ewwwwww

In Ireland, you can see a doctor on the day but it costs e60!

You may need a tetanus shot, you should have been given an emergency appointment.

BiscuitStuffer · 30/04/2009 21:04

They will lance it, so you may as well.

Ripeberry · 30/04/2009 22:15

Well, i'm not going to you-tube it, but i can tell you it was gross an orange. But boy did it feel much better!
I've got a massive bandage on it and i'm keeping it elavated.
I've had some wine and feeling chilled.
I'm not looking at it unless it hurts again.
I think i'll camp out at the GP's tomorrow.

Your GP practice should offer you an appointment with a health care professional (GP or Nurse) within 24 hours and a GP appointment within 48 hours.

The bank holiday weekend of course has an effect, but next Wednesday is not acceptable.

Finally got to see the Locum. My finger was bad all night and leaking so i got up at 5am and went to the surgery in person to "demand" and emergency appointment.
One look at the finger and they miraculously made me an appointment for 10.30am.
The GP, gave it a proper clean, checked nothing under nail, gave me a course of antibiotics and i went to the chemist and found special waterproof plasters so at least i can use my hand and maybe even have a shower and wash my hair!
Thanks for all your advise, i know now not to rely on just ringing the surgery, if you are physically in front of them then they deal with it.

Glad you got sorted.

Agree with the in-person thing. My first year here, I was frequently found sitting on the steps of the GP surgery when they opened, holding my head and in tears from yet another ear infection.

katiestar · 01/05/2009 13:47

i would burst it and put antiseptic on.

katiestar · 01/05/2009 13:49
