to think that £5.00 to put a poster on the school notice board is day light robbery

Th pta at my dc school do loads of fund raising which is great, but I wanted to put an A5 poster up on the play ground notice board adverising an event, only to be told it would cost £5.00 for one week!, given that we are always being asked for money, for non uniform days, and other such like events, I think that is excessive, they also charge £25.00 a month to put any adverts on the back of the school weekly news letter. We also have to pay 30.00 a year per child for the building fund (catholic school, that is not something the pta have any thing to do with),I can understand them wanting cash for advertising a business, but for a one off non profit making event it seems very mean, am I being tight or are they just being money grabbing?

That is money grabbing for a non profit making event that I assume would be of interest to the children.

put it on the nearest lamp post to the school instead?

If your advertising an event, then presumably that event is being run in order to make money. So why shouldn't some of that money go to the school?

Or is the event a school fund-raising event?

Well no, I wouldn;t expwect that myself. If the OP is organising a charity event, that is for the benefit of a community (I used to organise park fun days for example) then the event not only benefits those attending (they have a good time) but also raises money for charity/to fund the event or whatever.

I would expect local schools to be supportive of the community.

it is a band concert, but ticket sales just cover the cost of the theatre, so non profit, the event isn't connected to the school, but I thought it may be of interest to some of the families and also just want to get bums on seats, any money made beyond the cost of the theatre goes to a local charity. It is just typical of the school at the moment, year 6 were shouted at by the deputy head as not wanting to be charitable because so many of them didn't take part in an easter garden competition that the school ran, in fact year 6 organised a sponsored silence for comic relief and raised far more than the 1.00 a head the school were charging for their competition. I think I am just very disillusioned with the place at the mo. never mind only a few more months and mine will be out of there

I think I will do the lamp post thing suggested, also my local corner shop will put one up for 50p a week, as the concert is in June it would need to stay up for a while,

Try your local library as well.
