Was waiting in the waiting room for DH who was seeing the doctor and chatting to someone we know. Anyway Ds2 (19 months) came up to me and said 'boo-boo' (his word for breastfeed) and tried to lift my top. I said 'No not at the moment DS2, daddy will be out soon' And this 'friend' turned round and said to DS2 'Oh no, you don't want that, you don't have that anymore' I turned round and said 'errr yes he does, thank you'

Dh said that if he had heard her say that, he would have said something to her, but I was made to feel 'strange' for BF still.....

Its more the fact that she directed it to my Ds2 rather than me IYKWIM.

YANBU,
I'm still breastfeeding dc2 who's 20months, usually only at bedtime.
Don't tend to mention it because of the reaction that you experienced. People tend to think that we're a bit strange!!

Vaguely · 29/04/2009 21:05

marvellous. you are clearly bloody wonderful

Vaguely · 29/04/2009 21:06

(i meant that sincerely btw - re-read it and it looks well fake!!)

SparklyGothKat · 29/04/2009 21:07

I don't mention it normally, its only because he asked and I knew DH wouldn't be long that I said no. He doesn't feed during the day anyway so not even sure why he asked lol

not wonderful, she won't drink milk from a cup, not even ebm.
Just easier and at least she get's some milk in her diet, didn't want to BF dc2 for as long as dc1 but it's looking that way.

BodyBagEgg · 29/04/2009 21:11

yanbu

Very, very well done to you.

MadameCastafiore · 29/04/2009 21:14

Bitty?

(sorry couldn't resist!)

BodyBagEgg · 29/04/2009 21:17

Bitty, is a really pathetic comment.

AlistairSim · 29/04/2009 21:21

I had a very old lady ask ds if he "Still has a suck of mummy" the other day.

I thought it was rather sweet.

AlistairSim · 29/04/2009 21:22

Totally irrelevant to the thread, but wanted to share.

Sounds like my mil to be honest, addressing the child rather than the parent.

It's most embarrassing {blush] when she tells children with dummies (past the age she thinks it's appropriate) "you don't want that dirty old thing..." and other words to that effect.

She made a similar comment to my DD on bf and I stopped when she was 7 months!!!!

vlc · 29/04/2009 23:34

Ah, SGK, you know YANBU, don't you?

Did she have the humility to look embarrassed when you corrected her?

My MIL has started directing comments like that towards my dd, despite the fact that she herself was bf until she was two. Go figure. Sigh.

thumbwitch · 29/04/2009 23:34

YANBU - it's none of her business and she had no right to say it to your DS, whatever she might have thought.
