Not really AIBU but should I check where random £150 in my bank came from...

Just checked my bank account online, I used my last fiver on Sunday.

So anyway just checked and for whatever reason I have £150 I am not due child benefit for 2 weeks and even that's only £80, my tax credits go in on a Wednesday and that's £40 and my wages go into a different account!

I am totally puzzled.

Should I check with bank or just keep it and assume it came from some sort of lovely generous angel LOL.

I would check, in case they take it back!

ABetaDad · 28/04/2009 08:53

I woudl check.

If it is a mistake the bank will take it away without warning and if you have already spent it then you may be in overdraft and then you will pay fees.

yes, wot he said!

mamadiva · 28/04/2009 08:54

Do tax credits owe you anything ?

They have been known to put extra in my account sometimes .

Does the payment have a code or reference next to it ?

Also don't forget tis a bank holiday next week so something may have gone in early .

TrillianAstra · 28/04/2009 09:00

If you checked it online can't you look at the statement, and it will say approximately where it came from on there?

mamadiva · 28/04/2009 09:02

Right have phoned, no mistake but someone definately put it into my account.

Must have been my great gran, only person I can think of. She's always doing things like that bess her.

Am welling up here because I was talking to her the other day about how bad things were financially at the moment. She lives away down in Glasgow and I am way up in the Highlands

Will give her a phone later just to check but I think it will have been.

i once had £23,000 put into my account by mistake. still have the account amount slip.

Flibbertyjibbet · 28/04/2009 09:34

Awwwwwwww.

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 28/04/2009 09:36

just in case it isn't great gran - legally, if you have spent it on something that can't be returned (holiday, food you already ate for eg) the bank can't reclaim it from you. That's if you would keep it - that's up to you. You also need to be able to show you believed it to be yours.

I'd sit on it for a while then spend it

Notalone · 28/04/2009 09:48

. She sounds lovely!
