Sorry Hannah but I don't like rompers - I have no idea why though as they are not that far removed from babygros TBH!

I think, once they can sit up or hold themselves nicely, they are fine in soft, proper, clothes. I may be wrong of course but it never harmed my kids

andirobo · 28/04/2009 12:29

Well I like those rompers - great for the summer - no sweaty waist bands, etc!

It is each to their own, as I dont like flowery girls clothes or baby pink!!

Thank you for this thread. I was ALWAYS the one mum at toddler group whose kid was in a babygro. All the others were in full outfits - matching cardigans, tights, shoes. I was amazed that anyone had the time, will, and quite frankly the mentality to be bothered. They grow out of things in a nano second so anyone buying an entire matching outfit would surely be wasting their pennies and the world's resources?

I wouldn't go so far as to liken it to beauty pageants but I do agree that it is part of this culture of sexualising children too young because if you are dressing them in the latest fashions at 3 months no wonder they want to move on to more adult stuff in their pre-teens.

BonsoirAnna · 28/04/2009 14:44

Babygros are a complete waste of an opportunity to have lots of fun dressing your baby up and taking lots of lovely photos for posterity while he/she will keep still for the camera!

nappyaddict · 28/04/2009 15:43

My DS was still wearing babygros every day when he was 14 months. Can anyone beat that?

OrmIrian · 28/04/2009 15:45

No.

KingCanuteIAm · 28/04/2009 15:45

Fairynuff, I think saying that dresing a baby in clothes rather than a babygro is the begiing of sexualising them is a bit of a stretch! The babies are unaware of waht they are being dressed in so it cannot have any effect on what they will choose to wear later in life. Just because a parent chooses a dress for a baby it does not follow that the same parent will choose something unsuitabley old for an 8yo or a 12yo.

MrsMattie · 28/04/2009 15:48

Babies in full on Mini Me outfits = naff.

My MIL keeps asking me why I haven't bought some nice jeans and some sandals for my 23 wk old. Ummm...because she snots and sicks every 3 seconds and, urrr, she can't walk...

ThingOne · 28/04/2009 16:12

I loved white babygros on my babies. I think they looked really cute in them. I even bought a posh one for my DS2 for a wedding when he was a couple of months old and he wore it until it fell apart, albeit as pjs at the end. I found babygros really practical as well as cute but it never stopped me admiring the outfits of babies dressed differently.

devlon · 02/05/2009 12:32

Style threads are well weird, but my sprout was in jeans from birth just cos that's what everyone bought (we only bought one pack of vests in the first nine months).

i think they were def not that comfy for him tho, vests and t-shirt material trousers were my choice.

I love dressing my baby in different outfits. She is a total PFB! It's all secondhand bargains from E-bay... So IMO hooray for those spending a small fortune on new & writing weird baby style threads, they are providing rich pickings for me & mine.

19fran76 · 02/05/2009 13:04

P.S. I'm not scared of being naff. You're probably right, I am.[grin} Vive la difference!

FAQinglovely · 02/05/2009 13:20

I couldn't wait to get my DS's out of babygros - found them such a bloody faff - think all 3 went into "proper" clothes by about 2/3 months old.

Also I found it helped create a "bedtime" routine for them - babygro=pj's=sleep.

My boys both wore a mixture of babygros and 'proper' clothes from newborn. By 1 month old they were mostly in outfits, although I did have some 'daytime' babygros too. They rarely wore jeans, and NEVER shoes. I hate shoes on a child that can't walk!

My SIL had a special 'coming home from hospital outfit' for her DS1 (he was a week old when he came out) which included jeans and shoes! He looked so uncomfortable! I assume she did the same for her DS2, but didn't bother saking!

I love rompers on babies, in particualar these although that could be because my friends little boy is modelling the boys ones
