I told him last week that i wasn't interested in whatever he was trying to sell me.
he phoned again today and tried the hard sell.
I am not sure what company he was from, hell I'm not even sure what he was trying to sell me.
But I told him to write it all down and send me a letter because I didn't have any time to listen to him waffle on any more.
It probably was rude but I feel invaded in my own home.
I hate cold callers.
I have joined the telephone preference service and the only sales calls we tend to get is from BT.

next time just say you are in labour...worked for me they couldn't get off the phone quick enough

themoon66 · 27/04/2009 18:07

telephone preference scheme won't stop calls from abroad - they are not bound by it.

I always ask people to send letters with details. I don't think it's rude.

HecatesTwopenceworth · 27/04/2009 18:07

Why on earth did you listen to him for 20 minutes? y'softy. a polite "No thank you. Goodbye" and put the phone down.

purepurple · 27/04/2009 18:11

I know, that's what i did last week
when he rang today i thought I would give him the benefit of the doubt, thought it might be something important that I had missed, like a £1000 telephone bill or something.
Then I couldn't get off the phone, he kept asking me to write things down, my eyes glazed over and I just kept saying "yes, right".
Then he asked for my email address and I refused to give it.
I wasn't as rude as I could have been!

Tell him to take your number off the dialler if it's an automated call, and ask for the head office details too. The company I work for has to abide by Ofcom rules even though some of our call centres are abroad. Cold calls are a pain in the arse...

Kimi · 27/04/2009 18:18

Put the phone down, and if they call back a swift off will do.

Numberfour · 27/04/2009 18:18

I work from home so I am afraid that I am VERY rude when it comes to those kinds of calls. i just put the phone down.

Snorbs · 27/04/2009 18:24

Depending on what mood I'm in, I either say "Ooh, that sounds really interesting - let me go and grab a pen!", leave the phone off the hook and then see how long it takes for them to get bored or just tell them that I never buy anything from unsolicited phone calls.

AnguaVonUberwald · 27/04/2009 18:52

I just very politly say "no thank you" and then I put the phone down.

I do the same thing with door to door sales people. "No thank you" and then close the door!

ladymariner · 27/04/2009 19:09

Oh great minds, snorbs, that's exactly what I do too

Funnily enough, they never ring back!!!
