to notify ds's school on Monday to tell them that ds told me some of the children were pretending to make 'drugs' and try to 'sell them' at lunch time?

Seems like a really silly game for 9-11 year olds, wrapping a flower/weed in a leaf and pretending it's a drug then pretending to sell it. What would you do? Ds (10), normally tells me the truth. I was

I would inform school. Might be time for some additional drugs ed during circle time. Also school can then know to keep a look out on any particularly vunerable children or children who may be at risk fro, expsure to drugs at home, etc.

BananaFruitBat · 24/04/2009 22:34

Am too! I think I would mention it. Perhaps the school need to get a drug awareness lesson in somewhere (or whatever they call them these days).

BananaFruitBat · 24/04/2009 22:35

x-post. I'm slow at typing.

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 24/04/2009 22:37

At 9-11 they are still little children. They shouldn't know about this stuff. They should be playing football and climbing trees. Ds said he was asked if he was a virgin a few days ago. He's only been there half a term. I'm finding all this very hard. He's just turned 10.

I wouldn't worry too much about the virgin thing. Quite often it's more to do with finding out if others know the meaning of such a grown up word/expression.

Although combined with the pretend drugs I'm not too sure.

Maybe the teachers could keep an eye open to see if there's a ringleader amongst them who may have problems.

BigBellasBeerBelly · 24/04/2009 22:43

Don't worry though they've probably got hold of the idea through the media/tv/music rather than any real life stuff...

tiredsville · 24/04/2009 22:43

Crazy, whatever happened to playing mummy and daddies?

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 24/04/2009 22:48

I'll mention it. I hope they've not seen this in real life. I monitor what ds watches on TV, he's too young to be exposed to things like this yet. I'd rather he kicked a ball around . He said he didn't play with the 'drugs', he was the 'bodyguard'

BigBellasBeerBelly · 24/04/2009 22:57

I think that a large part of the music industry is quite blatant in this sort of stuff, it's on front page of tabloids etc.

Soaps have drugs storylines - and remember zammo on grange hill - I assume that childrens tv may touch on these things now as well?

Children do pick things up.

TBH we did something similar at school, although we were a little older, it freaked people out... and that was 20 years ago...

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 24/04/2009 22:59

Jeeze I must be sheltering ds. We don't do pop music, no tabloids, cartoons like ben 10, tom and jerry.

OP posts:
BigBellasBeerBelly · 24/04/2009 22:59

I think you should mention it BTW.

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 24/04/2009 23:01

I will. I don't think children this age should be doing things like this. It doesn't bode well for our future does it!

wheresclaire · 24/04/2009 23:06

DS and his palnext door (both 7) were playing today. They had their hoods pulled up and had sticks as guns. I asked if they were playing cops and robbers. (oh the innocence of mothers). No, they said. "We're playing gangsters". WTF!!!! Im sure DS doesn't even know what a gangster is!!

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 24/04/2009 23:06
Shock

BigBellasBeerBelly · 24/04/2009 23:07

Can't speak for now, DD not yet 2!

But I was watching grange hill etc from about 8 I reckon - has that changed? And they see papers in the shops, pop music when out as well etc...

I suppose I'll find out later!

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 24/04/2009 23:08

I remember Grange Hill. I never played it out at school and pretended to deal drugs though. It's worrying what children are being exposed to.

BigBellasBeerBelly · 24/04/2009 23:14

Like I say we did a pretend to sell drugs thing at school, although we were a bit older, maybe 13...

And that was in the early 80's - apparently everything happens younger now. We had certainly never been exposed to actual drugs though.

Just trying to say that they probably haven't been exposed, they may have got an idea from who-knows-where.

I think you should tell the school (we got in deep shit).

But try not to worry, it really is unlikely to be anything sinister.

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 24/04/2009 23:15

I'll pass it on so they can have a word. Thankyou.

Good luck fluffy!
