To be fuming that boots have sold me a memory card that has killed my camera?

It's a digital slr, pretty old but was working fine. It only held a few pictureson internal memory so I took it into boots and asked at the developing counter what sort of memory card it would take. I made sure they were sure, as I had no clue so confidently paid £30 and got it home. Having put it in the camera it came up with an error message and then died. It won't turn on.

I have googled it and I've found they sold me the wrong type of card and the new one has 'corrupted' my camera.

They won't refund the card as it's out of its packaging. Oh I'm cross.

I'd go to the manager, if it's not 'fit for purpose' it's covered by the sale of goods act. They sold you something that was not fit for purpose, they led you to believe that it was the right one, you were therefore misled into entering into a contract with them. Under contract law they have to refund and return your camera to the way it was before you took the 'contract' out. Contact consumer direct (trading standards) aswell.
