to complain again about this nursery?

long story short, dd was in a nursery but I removed her as their sleeping/feeding arrangements plus safety was pretty bad. It looked fine when I visited and during settling in, but then lots of new staff started, plus a new manager, and everything just changed!

I complained. There was an unannounced inspection and my complaints were either fully upheld or partially upheld.

fast forward almost a year - I was on another parenting website where you can post reviews of daycare etc. So I posted a review of this nursery, telling the truth (the inspection reports can be seen online anyway!).

The nursery manager has now replied with a comment of her own accussing me of being a liar, of slander, of being 'a horrible person' and saying that the inspections found nothing wrong. She also finished with a 'see you at x toddler group' (how does she know I go to x toddler group? and it sounds almost like a threat...)

I'm really angry! My own review was honest and short and simple. Her post was nasty and unprofessional.

Should I just ignore or should I make another formal complaint? I have already reported the message to the website moderators.

I would send a copy of the comment to ofsted and to the early years department of your local authority. We had similar problems with a nursery, more particularly, the nursery owner. Your nursery isn't in South London is it?

monkeypinkmonkey · 21/04/2009 09:47

Who could you make a formal complaint to? I would post a link on the review page to the report so everyone can see the truth , I'm petty tho. She sounds awful mind, coz yeah it does sound like a threat, see you at toddler group.

I agree with Lanky, report her post to Ofsted as it is unprofessional and a tad threatening.

Don't tell her you are doing this, just do it. Th website moderators may delete her post if you have reported it which would be a shame as her post will give any parents reading a clear picture of her character.

the comments have already been deleted by the website (fast work!). I saved a link but it now comes up to the 'new' page (minus comments)

I did save the comments in word, but then it looks as though I could have made it up...

I'm up in scotland actually, so the body to complain to is the scottish care commission. Don't know if the EA could do anything...

I would contact the website they may still have a record of it that they can confirm.

have they deleted your comment too?

the nursery manager I suppose could just deny all knowledge, and say anyone could have posted 'her' comment.

Do the Ofsted reports show this inspection you refer to and the measures they needed to make to improve? It sounds like when you started it was okay, maybe new parents on visiting will get a poor vibe and be put off? {hopeful}

APerson · 21/04/2009 10:16

that's a good idea, I can contact the website. My comment has been deleted to

Yes the inspection reports are quite bad, they've had 2 more inspections since my complaint, so 3 in a year and all bad!

It's a good idea to contact the council too as presumably, it will deal with the registration of the nursery. We found our council very helpful and they helped the parents with complaints to ofsted

The website may have kept copies of the messages even if they were taken off the board. If you report it to the relevant authority and they wish to investigate they should be able to get the information from the website owners.

That does sound vaguely threatening, I'm sure it was intended to make you feel uncomfortable and nothing will actually come of it though.

They sound like right charmers. Lovely to think they're looking after kids!

Lanky · 21/04/2009 11:30

I'm sure you are right (doobry) in that it was just a threat, but it is not appropriate for the nursery owner to treat her clients in this way. This is a particular hobby horse of mine having experienced similar treatment from our own nursery owner.

The only way these places will improve is if parents do complain and complain to as many people as possible.
