Absolute Radio - erectile dysfunction ads - AIBU to not want 3.5yo DD to hear them?

There are ads playing on Absolute Radio this afternoon for a the 'Longer Lasting Sex Clinic', which is for men who 'only last 30 seconds in bed' and 'can't get it up'. I was totally when I heard it at 1pm. And they just keep playing it over and over every few minutes! I called them and asked if they could move it to after the watershed as it's not appropriate for children. They said they agree, which is why they aren't playing it on the breakfast show, school run time or tea time, when children are likely to be listening. But outside those hours they don't think enough children are listening to warrant not playing it. WTF!?!?! They agree that is isn't suitable for children, but are totally ignoring the fact that many pre-schoolers listen with their mums all day long!

So, having called them and explained that I'm not happy, and had them basically tell me that it's tough luck, AIBU to call OFCOM, or am I getting carried away? I don't really want DD1 asking her dad if he lasts longer than 30 secs in bed when he gets home! And I know I could just turn the radio off (which I have done), but I shouldn't have to!

If anyone else is a listener and want to complain too, call them on 0330 123 1215, press 9 for reception and ask for Tony.

YABU and freakishly precious.

Your 3.5yo has no idea what any of those words mean.

Is anyone else feeling sorry for poor Tony on reception?

AnnieLobeseder · 20/04/2009 15:09

She might not know what they mean, but kids hear and parrot. It's more that I don't want her repeating it back to anyone!

So you really don't think that an ad deemed unsuitable for school-age kids is also unsuitable for pre-schoolers, some of whom are almost 5 yo?

Turn that radio off if you are so bothered.

Babies and preschool kids are with parents all day, every day. YABU to think the whole world has to adjust just because you now have a child.

I have a 3.5 yr old DD as well, by the way. There is no way she would even notice a radio ad for "erectile dysfunction", let alone manage to remember or repeat those words to anyone.

laweaselmys · 20/04/2009 15:54

It hasn't bothered me particularly.

I think their answer is fair enough tbh, it's not got some amazingly catchy jingle so kids that are old enough to notice and potential repeat/understand aren't going to be listening.

Your DD won't parrot that phrase because there's nothing 'interesting' or memorable about the way it has been delivered to her, iyswim, and she has no idea that to repeat it would press buttons with you or anyone else.

your child has no idea what it is about and is unlikely to be interested.

If something does bother you that much it is your job to restrict access/stop your children from listening to or watching things you are not comfortable with - not the radio. It is not a station made particularly for children so it is up to you to decide whether it is appropriate for your child and whether to have it on when she is around.

YABU - you are being particularly precious.
