i always ask him, though he generlaly makes a pigs ear and was annoying me today, wiping the floor with the cloth ffs!!

so i did it,
but is this a silly oldfashioned habit or a common occurence in households, or both?

Erm yes I do cakes, not sure I warrant that title though piccies on my profile.

beanieb · 19/04/2009 22:25

I mostly get my oh to do it as I am too busy putting the veg onto plates and stuff.

TheSmallClanger · 19/04/2009 22:25

DH is not much of a meat eater so I carve. My mum always carves at her house as well, because my dad is rubbish at it and sends bits of meat flying across the room.
She also has one of those plate warmers powered by two tea lights in the bottom.

Tommy · 19/04/2009 22:28

this is making me remember... my Dad always used to carve.

I live in a veggies household now with DH and the DSs so not much call for it...

Thunderduck · 19/04/2009 22:50

LOL. They make me think of The Rocky Horror Show too Bella.

OH used to carve the meat but it depends now what flat we're in (we don't live together). The one who owns the flat does the catering for the other - seems to work for us.

edam · 19/04/2009 23:13

dh carves round here, but that's because I'm a vegetarian.

ClaireDeLoon · 19/04/2009 23:20

My DP never carves, but then again nor does my dad, so I don't think that is odd.

pointydog · 19/04/2009 23:25

it is one of the silliest old-fashioned things ever.

I carve the meat with a bread knife, same as I do everything to serve up the darn meal.

harleyd · 19/04/2009 23:26

blimey ive never thought in my life to ask anyone else to carve whatever it is ive just burnt

Thunderduck · 19/04/2009 23:27

I let dp carve, not that we have roasts very often, and he so rarely eats meat, but if we're having guests over he'll often make one.

I can barely manage to use a knife and fork together so I leave it to him, and he's from a hunting and shooting family so is accustomed to carving up entire deer.

Thunderduck · 19/04/2009 23:30

Having said that,I don't believe it needs to be or should be the man. it's just that in our household dp is the obvious, or only choice. Unless I want to serve up to our guests something that looks as though I'd just wrestled it out of a lion's jaws.

pointydog · 19/04/2009 23:31

now, do you carve the entire deer on teh table infront of guests or in the kitchen behind closed doors?

Thunderduck · 19/04/2009 23:33

LOL. Well outside normally, or in the building they have for the purpose. I mean field dressing it really.

mumeeee · 19/04/2009 23:33

It's old fashioned. My Dad always carves but he is in his 80's and Mum says he does it better than her.If we have a roast ( which isn't often) I uaually carve but DH will do it if I ask him or if he has cooked the dinner.

pointydog · 19/04/2009 23:35

a building for the purpose of carving up deer?! goodness, now I am confused.

Is that an abbatoir or a shed?

Thunderduck · 19/04/2009 23:37

Too big to be called a shed really. But that'll do. I'm speaking of his parent's home, his father goes hunting and shooting almost daily,so dp's had plenty of experience with carving things up.

If I ever go missing, look for me in the shed.

Mspontipine · 19/04/2009 23:38

ComeOVeneer you so do warrant that title. Your cakes are so stunning I wanted to cry.
You should be very very proud of yourself xx

lilacclaire · 19/04/2009 23:51

Dp always carves, then looks on proudly at his work
I had to do it today as he was at work, made a right mess of it, chunks and little bits of meat everywhere, told the kids to eat up quick lol

Juxal · 19/04/2009 23:59

My mum always carved. I would but dh enjoys doing it and now he's had a lot of practise does it really well

Jackstini · 20/04/2009 08:03

Wow ComeOVeneer - am soooooooo impressed with your cakes
