To think that the old 'she's jealous' line, in response to any female/ female criticism, is lazy and damaging??

My sister doesn't like my new shoes/ the checkout girl looked at me funny/ my boss is snooty etc etc so often is met with "she's probably jealous"
Is it just me? Does this not seem to imply that we all just operate on a competitive level with other women and that our interactions dont run much deeper than the superficial?
Am i looking too deep? It just feels somehow belittling to us all.
Dont seem to hear it between men, is it just them that are allowed more complex thoughts?
Anyone explain it better maybe?

I agree - I think it's a lazy argument. I don't know whether it's trotted out as a line of comfort sometimes, which I guess I understand, even if I don't agree with it - when people start believing it it's particularly problematic.

lol at cornsilk

And YANBU. It's frustrating, because any attempts to prove that you're not jealous just make you look like Mrs. So-Jealous-She's-Raving.

I do hear this accusation from more women than men, though.
