To think that the woman who got hit by a policeman at the G20 protests shouldn't now be making money out of it...

Heard her say on the news this morning that she thinks the policeman should have asked her politely to move away!!! She was screaming at him like a hariden, wouldn't back off when he asked and signalled her to, he's in the middle of a braying mob and he should ahve asked her politely!!!

O and wasn't it lucky all the cameras were on hand to capture the moment and pass it on to the press.

I don't condone violence of any sort and agree the police need to uphold the highest standards but I'd be more convinced about her sincerity if she'd said any money she makes was going to Ian Tomlinsons family...after all she claims to have been there for a 'peaceful vigil' following his death.

Right, rant over, off to play in the garden with ds for a bit...

I think that if she has a complaint then, of course ,yes she could complain. Thats not the issue or the OP ,its the fact that she is now gaining publicity and presumably money on the back of it all that has annoyed some people.

SoupDragon · 18/04/2009 16:22

given that the woman has admitted pushing the policeman, can he complain that she assaulted him?

SoupDragon · 18/04/2009 16:24

Personally, I suspect that the fact that she was fully aware that there were 3 film crews around may have clouded her, er, normal good judgement/behaviour.

duchesse · 18/04/2009 16:24

She is tiny. He is large. She pushed him, he whacked her several times with a truncheon. Does that sound like a measured response?

Imagine if the situation were a 2 yr and a 5 yr old in a playground. How many of you would think it OK for the 5 yr old to pick up a stick and whack the 2 yr old back? And this policeman was meant to be in a position of authority.

Threadworm · 18/04/2009 16:26

She 'admitted' to instinctively pushing him when he pushed her.

The policement who allegedly committed these assaults need to be charged but I think it is more important to question the police decisionmakers who decide on 'kettling' and the like which are the policies that create those tense, crowded, frightening situations in which the violence happens. Those strategies seem to reflect a desire to prevent legit demonstration.

MrsJamesMartin · 18/04/2009 16:28

Yes he could claim assault from her too.

He hit her once with the baton not several times.

FAQinglovely · 18/04/2009 16:29

duchese - I'm a short arse as well - and I can assure that I you would't want to mess with me - size isn't everything you know (ok well it is in some circumstances but not in this one )

SoupDragon · 18/04/2009 16:30

I'm not making any judgements about "measured response" I was curious because a friend who once beat off 2 muggers was advised not to press charges since they could press charges for assault.

FAQinglovely · 18/04/2009 16:31

"Yes he could claim assault from her too."

ooo we could have a Judge Judy on it.

"well you're both as bad as each other go outside and hit each other with wet kippers and then shake hands and don't waste my time again"

policywonk · 18/04/2009 16:31

Agree with Thready re. kettling. It's a dreadful way to respond to legitimate protest, on several levels.

FAQinglovely · 18/04/2009 16:36

thought this is in interesting article here

MuffinBaker · 18/04/2009 17:34

3rd incident now being reported...

donnie · 18/04/2009 18:29

no, she shouldn't be making money out of it and that fact alone will demolish any chance she has of proper recourse through legitimate legal channels. Stupid bint.

blueshoes · 18/04/2009 18:37

I guess she was not interested in getting money through the legal process - doubt she would impress a court in any case. Far faster and guaranteed to get it through Max Clifford, all £50,000 worth.

MadameCastafiore · 18/04/2009 18:42

I just hope they take her benefits away - she is an ex heroine addict with convictions for shop lifting who was giving as good as she got.

Whipped by the Taliban my arse!

Threadworm · 18/04/2009 18:46

If you suddenly find yourself in a situation where the press are hammering on your door and some of them are slavering to represent you as scum that deserves a beating from nice copper, it's not unreasonable to think of getting help in dealing with the press. Who else other than M. Clifford has your average punter heard of in this field? And he does thejob straightforwardly.

And if you've never had much money and suddenly see the chance of a windfall? Well I'm not sure ... but I wouldn't be too quick to judge someone in these circs.

donnie · 18/04/2009 18:50

'he does the job straightforwardly'

what job would that be then?

FAQinglovely · 18/04/2009 18:51

make you some quick cash I guess

beanieb · 18/04/2009 18:52

here's hoping the other policemen in his unit/force agree that his reaction was somewhat over the top. I would hate to think that any other police man or woman actually thought he was behaving in a professional manner.

policywonk · 18/04/2009 18:53

'scum that deserves a beating from nice copper'

donnie · 18/04/2009 18:54

would that be the same max Clifford who 'represented' that woman Nadine something or other who accused Neil and Christine Hamilton of raping her and was subsequently found to have made it up? about 4 years ago?

he did that pretty straightforwardly I guess.

beanieb · 18/04/2009 19:18

"In a week when the police service has been seen by a lot of the public in its least rosey condition as a result of things that have happened elsewhere, it is important to realise there are both male and female officers displaying what I would call everyday courage in protecting the public."

Swedes · 18/04/2009 19:41

You must admit that the Anti Capitalist G20 protester going to Max Clifford is hilarious.
But you can't go beating people up just because their politics are a bit confused.
