to let 6yo ds1 go out and play wearing only a pair of wellies?

everGreensleeves · 17/04/2009 10:10

he asked if he could go out and play with nothing on, I said "no, you'll hurt your feet", he replied "well what about if I just put my boots on"......and I couldn't think of a reason to refuse

will the neighbours think we are completely out to lunch?

If it's warm enough then why not? Am assuming you are talking about the back garden and not playing out in the street.

(by the way, you have to answer my thread in chat now about what the postman brought. That is The Law. )

everGreensleeves · 17/04/2009 10:21

I think I might be

are you serious?

are we talking utterly starkers?

if i saw your DS, I would assume that this was one of those pick your rows moments and you let it go

TrillianAstra · 17/04/2009 10:24

Naked? In public or in your garden?

everGreensleeves · 17/04/2009 10:24

yes utterly starkers bar the wellies

it is glorious sunshine here and we have a big garden

should I call him back in and make him put clothes on then

[mortified]

it's our garden, it is overlooked though

is a 6yo's body so shocking?

god I really am out of touch

DS runs around naked in the summer in our garden

i always feel envious of his lack of self consciousness

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 17/04/2009 10:27

How fab - let him enjoy himself. A little graze or scratch won't do him any harm at all and he will soon be too self conscious to want to do it.

I am jealous of your sunshine - it's raining here!

I think that sounds lovely! Also jealous of your weather as it's been raining here for hours this morning

OrmIrian · 17/04/2009 10:29

Bugger me, not you are not! It sounds lovely. But I am a mother who lets her DC run around in just about anything at all incl just a tigers head on one occasion.

He's 6. That is the joy of being six. Not caring about such stuff.

MIAonline · 17/04/2009 10:29

If he wants to , let him. Its one of those things that he will want to do once if you let him.

greatwhiteshark · 17/04/2009 10:30

Go for it! He's 6, not 16. Let him enjoy being naked while he's not embarrassed about it.

EyeballsintheSky · 17/04/2009 10:30

I think I'd make him put a scarf on at least

TrillianAstra · 17/04/2009 10:31

Wish I had weather like yours in that case!

geordieminx · 17/04/2009 10:32

Ds does this quite often... he likes going down his slide naked... his poor little knacks... he's only 23 months though

ruty · 17/04/2009 10:32

oh you lucky thing it is pouring with rain around here. I think for the sake of the neighbours I would have asked him to wear underpants but didn't realise how positively Victorian I am.

Elk · 17/04/2009 10:34

If its really hot does he need a hat? I love the naked except for hat and shoes look, which is used quite a lot in my garden in the summer (by my dd's not me!)

OrmIrian · 17/04/2009 10:34

My youngest is 6. He spent quite a bit of the weekend in the garden in various states of undress. He particularly enjoyed the trampoline in the buff - it made him laugh that his willy jumped up and down too

Now if he was doing that at 16 I would be concerned.

Marne · 17/04/2009 10:34

I wouldn't let dd out naked, mainly because she might hurt herself and people might think i'm mad .

But on the other hand, its ok for adults to sit on a beach half naked showing all there flabby white bits so why not?

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 17/04/2009 10:35

Our neighbour is a big fat man who insists on doing his gardening topless from about the middle of March onwards. He also has a builders bum.

Far more offensive than a naked 6 year old!

Morloth · 17/04/2009 10:36

Clothes are optional in our house (well they were before I had to take the back curtains down to replace the rods - we are in a terrace so the back neighbours now have a clear view into our lounge) so DS spends most of his time in just boxers or if he can manage it nothing.

Both my neighbours on either side let their kids run around the garden starkers (I know from cross fence chats). When we first moved to the UK it used to freak me out. Only because you don't do it in Oz due to lack of ozone layer.
