To think its wrong that butlins give a free dvd on the front cover of a childrens comic so blatantly advertising their holidays!

My 3 year old was allowed to choose a comic as a "treat" today. I am sure he only chooses the comics according to who offers the best free gifts! Anyway one of the "free gifts" today - well according to my 3 year old thinking that is - was a butlins dvd! Tried to explain that it was a boring dvd and it didn't wash! He said its mine mummy it came with my comic and I want to watch it. So I put it on and it was an all singing and dancing (literally) advert saying come to butlins and have a wonderful holiday etc etc! Ds1 was transfixed saying I want to go there mummy can we go why aren't we going to butlins mummy it looks fantastic!etc etc! You get the picture.

We have always travelled the world with our children and this August we are going on an around-the-world trip for 10 months! But where do you think my children is begging to go every day? Butlins! Yes, they have also fallen for the marketing it seems. Its very frustrating to ask them which countries in South America they want to visit and get the reply: Butlins!

sail73 · 16/04/2009 22:32

And they say advertising doesn't work!!

Is it like Pontins? I went their for a footie tournament with DC and Christ the bed were small. And strangely covered in plastic - are people who go there generally incontinent?

ILIVEONBENEFITS · 17/04/2009 02:35

Litchick............. people who go there are generally alcohol induced incontinents with simultaneous stomach content retention problems.
They mostly display a horrifyingly regular tendency to be comletely unable to cook food without smearing it round every non kitchen surface, drink without spilling a minimum of 80% of the contents everywhere there is a porous surface and seem legally obliged to save the fat content of everything they grilled during their stay and deposit it at the back of the "wardrobe" of the main bedroom before leaving.
many of the stains apparent on the mattress, curtains and carpets defy identification and give off an odour of the kind that gil grissom himself would retch at.
but hey, its fun fun fun all the way for the kids................

I told my son it was advertising ( he under stands the vague concept I think, aged 4) for a place like center parcs but not as good fun, so we didn't need to watch it.

He took it and put it in the bin for me.

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, well thanks for that over generalistion there. we go butlins every year! My DS and DD love it! We love it as a family! For DS who has ASD it provides detailed schedules and everything runs on time so we can routinely plan our days, for DD is has everything a 3 year old can imagine from bob builder fair rides which are free to angelina and dora on stage! For me and hubby it has all we need to ensure our kids have fun and its cheap!
i say don knock it till you tried it! We cant even afford to get passports let alone travel the world and a butlins holiday for 5 can be done on £500 including spending money and food!

EnterStageLeft · 17/04/2009 23:12

No offence BONKERZ sweetie, but I don't want a holiday for 5 which can be done on £500 including spending money and food!

BONKERZ · 18/04/2009 00:00

well £500 is all we can afford! for £500 we get 2 meals a day of very good quality, lots of entertainment, lots of activities and we enjoy it. Please dont assume that because this is the holiday we choose that we are beneath those who travel abroad etc. We are not!!! My DH works hard to afford that holiday, we are not poor by a long shot but prioritise mortgage etc before holidays! we dont have debt but cannot afford passports AND holiday! We have actually just had 2 nights in a travellodge by the coast for a grand total of £38 for 5 of us, inc spending money and food it cost us just over £100 for 3 days for 5!
