to get the potty out in public?

PTd DD about a month ago & all is going well.

I bought one those fold away travel potty to bung under the pram incase DD gets caught short when we're out.

We had gone to the park & were walking home, I had DS (8 months) too, there are no public toilets around & let's face it when a toddler has to go they have to go!

So I parked the pram, got out the travel potty (which has like a large version of a nappy sack inside it so anything that's in it gets tied up neatly & taken home to be put in bin or if one near by goes in a doggy bin) put it behind the cover of the pram & let DD do a wee.

An older couple walked past & the woman had a good old stare & said it was disgusting that I was allowing my child to wee in public.

So, AIBU?

Should I just let her wet herself next time

YANBU!

it is the law to get the potty out in public when potty training

That couple were being vvvvvu fgs its only a toddler with a bit of wee not a older child who has more bladder control. Yes i expect the man has pissed up a few trees or bushes in his time, hypocrite!

FGS! OP, YADNBU, The old bat lady was POTTY! While PT DS1, I was spending over 4hrs a day on buses to get DD to her school. Is a 20mo meant to hold for over an hour until he gets to a toilet?? I used to whip out the travel pot, tie up the bag, then double nappy sack it so no-one on the bus had to smell it (wee or poo). If I'd have not done that, he only would have had an accident, and then I'd have had to strip him and wipe him down before re-dressing him in clean clothes, and being unable to contain the smell from the clothes. Which is more acceptable??

I wonder why this old thread was re-activated... someone must be very bored

Little girl in question is probably dry at night now and starting school in Sept!

YANBU I agree with others that there are times when it might not be appropriate, but this wasn't one of them.

However while I'm not defending the woman, she should have minded her own business, she may not have realised u were using a travel potty, after all she probably had her kids 'potty trained' at 6 months old right?!

I never used a travel potty and went for the gung ho approach - until DD decided to have a tinkle in a changing cubicle in TopShop. Cue much embarrassment asking young trendy assistant for tissues to clean up a puddle of piss. Ah well, at least DD had the grace to close the curtain first!
