Depends where in the country you come from; West Mids is Mom/Mommy

abbierhodes · 15/04/2009 22:43

Midlands people use mom and mommy

LuluisgoingtobeanAunty · 15/04/2009 22:45

and there are several Americans on this site

It's a message board so I assume people from all over the world are likely to be using it

cheesesarnie · 15/04/2009 22:47

yabu.not everyone lives where you live.

suwoo · 15/04/2009 22:48

I second the Birmingham thing. My mum who hasn't lived in Birmingham for 30 years still says mom and refers to this site as momsnet which sets my teeth on edge.

Plonker · 15/04/2009 22:48

YABU. Why shouldn't people use those words?

suwoo · 15/04/2009 22:53

Just in case you thought I was agreeing with the OP, I'm not .

YABU

Kiwinyc · 15/04/2009 22:56

YABU - what difference does it make?

abbierhodes · 15/04/2009 22:58

I'm from Birmingham, and people round here say mom even when it is written as mum, iyswim.

PintandChips · 15/04/2009 23:12

i didn't say there was anything wrong with those words, just that i find it odd seeing them here, that's all. I had no idea it was a Midlands / Birmingham thing. also, i was a bit bored and i thought it would get a response.

Can I use Mam and Mammy?

KaiserSosay · 15/04/2009 23:18

Its a BRUMMIE thing

mrsboogie · 15/04/2009 23:20

ooooh I hate Mammy!!!!!!!!!!!!

decafgirl · 15/04/2009 23:22

Nooooo! I secretly hate it too & much prefer mum/mummy but my family might disown me... I think they think I'm trying to be something I'm not

edam · 15/04/2009 23:23

took me ages to work out it was Brummies, not Americans (couldn't understand why so many Yanks on a UK website).

diedandgonetodevon · 15/04/2009 23:23

It is a Brummie thing. DH always writes 'mommy' even though he pronounces it as 'mummy'. I still find it very odd!

PinkTulips · 15/04/2009 23:26

Plonker · 15/04/2009 23:27

ThePellyandMe · 16/04/2009 00:01

My mums a Brummie and she says and writes Mom.

I always thought it was my mum being weird until I read on here a few months back that it's a Brummie thing.

My Dads also Brummie though and he says Mum

mrsboogie · 16/04/2009 00:06

reminds me of my Irish upbringing and thick Irish accents saying "mammy"
