Went to Chessington today and of course it was heaving with people, about an hour's queue for each ride. Had to leave a ride queue to take DS to the loo (leaving DD & DS there) and telling the people behind that I would be back. When I returned I said to people that I had left the queue to take DS to the loo and was not pushing in so they were aware of what I was doing.

Anyway this prat in front of me would not move and blocked the walkway so I could not get through on purpose, so I tapped his shoulder and told him I was returning to my place. He turned around with a snarl and said that I should not be so rude and he did not like my tone of voice . I said I was not being rude and had said excuse me. He then told me I was old and ugly and should get to the back of the queue so I basically told him tough and he should look in the mirror himself (early 20s bad case of acne, I am 37 btw and was slightly pissed off to be told I was old). DH came to meet me from the ride (he had been on another ride with DN) and I told him what had happened and DS had heard everything as he was with me and he was furious so went to where this guy was standing and gave him a bit of a mouthful about it (why were you calling my wife names, etc without swearing - the ride staff threatened to call security because it got a bit heated and DH is quite big but the guy looked suitably chastened and DH left it). I spent the rest of the day looking over my shoulder in case this guy came looking for us with a posse (he was with his girlfriend/wife and son of about 3). Am just so furious this guy was looking for trouble when he was with his own child. I did nothing wrong as anyone who has a child that needs to loo in an hour long queue would know.

It totally ruined my very expensive day and I have vowed never go to a park again while there are so many rude ignorant people about (and will be buying a good anti ageing cream - paranoid emoticon).

Hmmm if you leave the que you leave the que. It was very good of the others to let you back in and I'm sure i'd have done the same but I can see his point, without the name calling etc.

stillenacht · 15/04/2009 22:13

ooo iheard about the queues to get in on the radio and that the traffic was really bad. I don't envy you for going. I hate those places - we rarely go but luckily for us as DS2 is disabled we get on the rides first-still very stressful though as DS2 screams because we have to wait for everyone else to get on!

Have a glass of wine and chill now

BananaFruitBunny · 15/04/2009 22:14

I carry travel potty liners for emergencies like that!

Ripeberry · 15/04/2009 22:17

What a charming bloke . Ignore people like that, they are so up their own backside they think they are the center of the universe.
Good on your DH standing up for you and not getting aggresive.

boobum · 15/04/2009 22:17

Too much agression everywhere. Hate it. YANBU.

chocolateismyonlyweakness · 15/04/2009 22:17

What a bloody idiot, but at least you stuck up for yourself!! Good on your DH.

We went to Legoland a while back, and get totally pee'd off with the queues at theme parks, after you've paid a fortune to get in it's no fun.

I wouldn't let this incident put you off if you want to go again, but maybe avoid school holidays.

Sorrento - so you really think that someone who has been in a queue for 30 mins and has to leave because of a loo emergency with a young child should get the back of the queue and have to start again. I don't think it's too much to expect to save my place with my other DCs. I get more annoyed with whole families who jump the queue to be with their friends who have saved them a place cos they've been on another ride .

I make mine go before i get into a long que and then if they claim to need it, they can jolly well hold it. Common sense really.
For goodness sake don't ever go to Disney Land Paris, you'd hate it.

PfftTheMagicDragon · 15/04/2009 22:26

I really think that you shouldn't have made the whole situation worse by sending your husband in to "speak" to him after it was all over. You complain that your DS heard everything but your DH went off to have a go at him in the company of his small child

DarrellRivers · 15/04/2009 22:27

Crikey, of course you should be allowed to take small child to toilet and return to your place in the queue.
Just returned from the Seventh Circle of Hell aka Disney Paris, and did this with Ds, leaving DD and DH in the queue.
No problem
However I wish also never to return to a theme park, and reckon I have earned about 10 years free of them by spending 3 whole days in Disneyland Paris
Poor MMF.
And being called old I bet that made your day

Thunderduck · 15/04/2009 22:29

He certainly shouldn't have been rude, and it's nice if you can return to your place but it certainly isn't an entitlement.

MiserableMotherFlunker · 15/04/2009 22:29

Mine did go when we got there actually and he held it for as as he could until he complained that he was in pain! Yes I have been to Disney Paris and had similar problems with toilet emergencies (put that down to rude French & Italian people though and I was certainly not the only one). Not a problem in Florida though as people were quite friendly and understanding. Are you trying to say I don't have any common sense?

OP posts:
blametheparents · 15/04/2009 22:30

I have taken DD out of a queue a couple of times to use the toilet and left DH and DS in the queue and have never had any trouble getting back to my place. Most people are ok about it. I would be.
DD is on Movicol and so when she needs to go, she needs to go! I wouldn't ask her to hold it, she wouldn't be able to.

DarrellRivers · 15/04/2009 22:32

And you can be in the darned queue for a hell of a long time, with no idea of when you are ever going to get to the front (can't you see I just love theme parks)

CarGirl · 15/04/2009 22:32

you can go to customer services and they give loo break pass, mind you it's only for one ride per visit IYSWIM

pointydog · 15/04/2009 22:34

darrell! You didn't enjoy disney paris?! I do not believe it for a minute

Anyway, flunker you had a horrible experience. The guy was a nob. But in a theme park I would never try to rejoin a queue.

luckylady74 · 15/04/2009 22:35

I'm really confused. I have always believed that 'queue etiquette' includes 1 member of a family being able to hold their place for the rest of the family whilst they go to the loo/get a drink/whatever - seems perfectly civilised behaviour.
There are no actual queue laws so those people saying 'you leave the queue you can't come back' - well that's just an opinion like mine!

pointydog · 15/04/2009 22:35

flunker, just how many times in your life have you had to go out of a queue only to rejoin it in teh middle later on?

Thunderduck · 15/04/2009 22:36

But there was no one to hold the queue. Her dp was on another ride. I see no great harm in asking but I don't believe the others are rude in refusing, though he certainly made rude comments.

DarrellRivers · 15/04/2009 22:37

PD, I'm not really a Disney gal.
Not keen on crowds
However did quite like the castle, buzz lightyear, and the candy floss, but not all the other people who were also there

pointydog · 15/04/2009 22:37

thunder, you and I might be having a Theme Park Agreement here

DarrellRivers · 15/04/2009 22:38

I thought OP had left some DCs in the queue holding her place

Thunderduck · 15/04/2009 22:38

OMG! We agree, and on a theme park thread too? Does this mean you'll be inviting me over for coffee and cake soon?
