To ban cheese and pineapple on sticks and sausage rolls at our wedding?

Any idea's on what kind of food to have instead?

I'm trying to have something a bit different for our buffet but df and a few other people are outraged that I'm trying to ban them.

I have said I will put a bowl of pineapple at the side of the cheese board selection later in the evening.

AIBU? Should I back down?

That's what I was thinking Gentle, I've never known anyone who willingly ate them. They do look nice though.

Habbibu · 13/04/2009 19:49

I made gingerbread men and women as favours for our wedding. They all got eaten very quickly!

sushi - good stuff is expensive. cheap stuff, risk food poisoning everyone, and ime not many people actually like it.

rather than choc fountain, why not have all chocolate desserts (even choc cheesecake yumyum)

LoveMyGirls · 13/04/2009 19:55

We're having chocolate cup cakes and one layer of the wedding cake will be chocolate so maybe the chocolate fountain is a bit more than we need? But will be nice to have fruit and marshmellows and runny choc too .......... hummmmmm

How expensive is expensive sushi ickle?

mmmmm cheese and pineapple
i am going to go and make some now

i would avoid having all the same type of thing for any course eg all bread - some people don't like / can't eat bread
although habbibu yours looked FAB and i expect people could make a meal from the other foods

or all chocolate desserts - lots of people not keen on chocolate
you need a bit of variety imo, but it's fine to stick with classics if that is what you like

Habbibu · 13/04/2009 20:14

We did check with guests, re bread, etc, Franny - it is a good point. And thank you - it was fab. Belgian weddings traditionally have essnetially just bread and cheese, but really fancy stuff with all the trimmings - we're not belgian, but thought it was a nice idea, but dh hates cheese, hence the continental meat selection. It was so lovely...

LoveMyGirls · 13/04/2009 20:18

Extremely good point there F&Z, one of my friends is wheat intolerant I must remember that when we do the final list.

At least 2 people are vegetarian as well.

New list..........

Nibbles on tables...

crisps
dips
cucumber, carrot and breadsticks
cheese and pineapple on sticks inc potato

1 choc cup cake per person (as a favour if you like)

Main Buffet
Ham
Beef
Pork
Loads of breads (french, ciabatta, bloomer, rolls with seeds/ floured)
potato salad
pasta salad
quiche
rice with peppers (what else could go in this?)
garlic king prawns
Veg samoses
onion barjis
vol u vents with prawns in
stuffed peppers (unless anyone can think of a veggie alternative?)
chicken satay
chinese chicken
cous cous
cheese board
olives
grapes
breadsticks

Dessert
3 layers of wedding cake (fruit, choc and vic sponge)

The jury still out on the choc fountains.

(waitrose entertaining website, just searched sushi)

Thunderduck · 13/04/2009 20:22

I would suggest a plain iced sponge too as not everyone likes chocolate. Clearly evidence that aliens really are among us.

Tinker · 13/04/2009 20:23

I love sugared almonds. And cheese and pineapple on sticks. Easily pleased.

LoveMyGirls · 13/04/2009 20:25

The victoria sponge layer is pretty plain if they don't like cream and jam they could just not eat the middle

I haven't read all the replies so apologies if its already been suggested but coronation chicken always go down well at a buffet - either for a sandwich filling or on its own. I done the catering for my brothers wedding and made loads of coranation chicken and it was the first thing to go and everyone said how nice it was.

Also mini toad in the holes are easy to do and eat.

PlumpRumpSoggyBaps · 13/04/2009 20:56

Yum. Your buffet sounds gobblicious. Can I come?

Except the couscous. Bleugh. (But am aware am an exception there)

You can put sweetcorn and peas in the rice. Also flavour it with a bit of curry powder/chilli powder etc.

Dd's suggestion is good too- coronation chicken. Slurp.

Think I'd better go and have some dinner. Too much drooling on the laptop isn't good for it.

thederkinsdame · 13/04/2009 20:57

If you are having a 70s themed wedding YABVU, if not then I think you are within your rights to do whatever you want! I think the list you have sounds fine. Hope it goes well!

blueshoes · 13/04/2009 21:04

ddJames, how do you make coronation chicken? Was my fave lunchtime takeaway.

Sushi is nice but fiddly to make. And if you make it in advance, the seaweed goes soggy (for me at least). It is also a bit fiddly to eat, with soy sauce and wasabi and people might baulk at a communal dip.

isenhart7 · 14/04/2009 18:20

Perhaps you could have a little sausage roll, pineapple, and cheese station seperate from the main buffet, f. e. out in the hallway, for the outraged.
