Was in marks and sparks getting my 2 pound sandwich meal deal and there was a woman in front of me at the checkout with a chicken - to be fair it was a large chicken probs feed 7-8 people, however the assistant scanned it thru and it was £28 pound!!!!!!! Is it me or would you not pay this for a chicken - i thought they were supposed to go cheep ha. No but seriously i could get a few days shopping on that

That's a lot! My chickens cost about 12 euros each and I think that is expensive (but they are so yummy that I forgive them!)

Could be organic, they go 4 prices like that.

CarGirl · 10/04/2009 16:34

There extra large non-organic chickens are around £13-£15 each so could well have been an organic one. They feed about 12 though!

Lizzylou · 10/04/2009 16:34

A good sized one from the local butcher (organic, free range)is around £7-10 here.

That is a lot of money.

Nancy66 · 10/04/2009 16:34

Isn't it more likely that it was a turkey!

mummytopebs · 10/04/2009 16:35

Bloody organic i should think it would have been fed cavair on a silver plate and drank champagne from a silver goblet for that price!

Yes I think it was a turkey. Dressed up as a chicken.

mummytopebs · 10/04/2009 16:46

Maybe it used to lay golden eggs.

vjg13 · 11/04/2009 19:15

I thought this was going to be about buying some kind of rare breed chicken for a pet!

DSM · 11/04/2009 19:20

£28!

My local butcher sells massive chickens, free range, organic, from a wee farm about 15 minutes down the road, feed about 8 or 9 for dinner, with leftover bits for sandwiches for a couple of days. £8.

shinyshoes · 11/04/2009 19:25

shit that pricey.

I buy Willow Farm from Tescos, they aren't quite free range but they aren't battery chicken (it's the kind that have enough room to kick footballs around ) Even they are £6-7 for a standard sized chicken
