Maybe the mum just really likes playing cricket.

No, YANBU. That advert makes me want to put a brick through the screen. Yes, jolly good, Persil's been around for 100 years. But that said, advertising has been pretty damn insulting to women over the years - why on earth would you want to revisit it?

I look forward to the first soap advert where a bloke knows how to use a washing machine and it's not a big deal.

PM73 · 19/07/2009 14:45

I thought it was a very good advert tbh & i took it as being a nostalgic trip through the past.

KIMItheThreadSlayer · 19/07/2009 14:45

They made this ad out of clips of old ad's so it is a time gone by...

Could up date it though to
A mum is some one who byes your fags
A mum is someone who don't mind you being drunk
A mum is someone who is proud as you are of you ASBO
A mum is someone who thinks she knows who your dad might be
And so on for a massive section of todays mothers and youths

Stewie - this advert drives me mad on all sorts of levels. Drives DW nust as well and even the DSs go 'oh no' when it comes on.

Herbal Esssences, I know what you mean - that drives me mad as well.

Also, try watching any shaver or male grooming advert or indeed any advert aimed at men at all. There is always some woman or women at the end fawning over the man. Buy a two bladed razor, get two women, buy a six bladed razor, get six women. It really is that basic. How stupid do they think men are?

Also ths standard, stupid bloke advert where we don't know how to do anything in the house, cook, look after ourselves, we need a woman with a knowing smile and a kind heart. Drives me mad.

Obviously, a lot of things drive me mad.

StewieGriffinsMum - you are quite right to wonder! My DP's exW used to work in laundry detergent (and other domestic cleaning products) marketing and she is definitely in another universe to mine on the family life issue!

PM73 · 20/07/2009 08:24

My dh works for Unilever & they are afantastic company to work for.Very, very family orientated, for example when some one has a baby the new baby gets sent a pressie,if dh has to work over (he maintains the lines) i get sent a lovely bouquet, they have vouchers for M&S as an extra Christmas gift & they also get boxes of freebies sent home now & again.

Every yr they host a family fun day with loads of various activities - all free of charge - for all age groups, its a fantastic day & at the end of the day on your way out your car boot is filled of lots of freebies.

Maybe its just the advertisers who are not in the real world, ime Unilever are a great family friendly company.

FairLadyRantALot · 20/07/2009 08:31

I hate it, too...but I hate most adds....but tbh, currently I hate the Radox one the most...."Time is woma's greatest enemy" or some such crap....all I can say is: "Oh, do fuck off"...it really iritates me that one...

FairLadyRantALot · 20/07/2009 08:32

OH, another one that irritates the hell out of me is the Calgon add...arghhhhhhhhhhhhh

stainesmassif · 20/07/2009 08:38

ooh, i didn't know this thread had reawoken. my new pet hate is the oven cleaner one 'so easy a man can use it' with footage of moronic man putting grill in plastic bag. so now the advertisers want to insult both sexes at the same time - interesting demographic they're chasing!

'What is a Mum ?' - A transmogrified harpie, who, come 9pm, is a havering wreck and just wants the children to bugger off to their beds - not going to sell much washing powder that one.

Habbibu · 29/07/2009 11:41

I've just looked at the persil website, as I saw the advert again, and considered contacting them to rant, when lo and behold:

"There?s nothing more precious than childhood; it?s a time of wonder, discovery and exploration and we understand that mothers want their children to grow up having a variety of stimulating experiences. We?re also aware that Mums today lead hectic lives and that there are rarely enough hours in the day to do everything you?d like with your children. So that?s why we?re launching the "every child has the right" campaign this summer ? aimed at helping parents to get their children involved in unstructured, ?free? play."

Yes, only Mothers care about this. Only "Mums" lead hectic lives. Apparently fathers neither wash their children's clothes nor help them get dirty in the first place.

Jeez. it's like Mad Men was a documentary.
