Especially in London where most of the residential streets are really narrow and can only fit one car in each direction? This morning was a perfect example of how disruptive it is... the roads where I live are in a grid pattern, narrow roads with cars parked both sides so only one car can go down them, if another car comes along you have to find a space to pull in and let them pass.

This moring there were three bin lorries parked in the middle of the street blocking three roads, two others were closed for road works so all the traffic was being funnelled down one tiny road. It was gridlock because there's usually only space for one car to pull in and let others go, so if there are two cars going in each direction you sit there face to face unable to move in either direction.

I don't expect them to do it at 5 in the morning, but can't they wait until say 11am? We didn't even have the school run to contend with this morning, it's much much worse when we do.

Ok, rant over, give me your worst

YABU - why don't you change your working hours, so you don't clash with the binmen.

HeadFairy · 08/04/2009 21:43

Ha I would, I soooo would.

Well I used to be a bin lady (for 2 yrs) and I have to say it the worst Job in the world (with people complaining) The bin men have a life too. They work sooo Hard for what they egt at the end of the month...

If anyone has something to say about being a bin men then my answer is...

Try it yourself for 2 days and see how you like it!!!!!! I bet most people wouldn't put up with the crap they get EVERY DAY!!!

'oh my bin is too far from my house'...well go and get it then...
'There is rubbish all over the road'...Try using sacks for your rubbish and the wind wouldn't blow it over your road...
'My bin is falling over in the wind'...Can we control the weather???
'they block me in'... for a few minutes, you know the day your bin gets emptied so work around it
'they are too noisy'...whatever

I just think its such a shame that the bin men get slated for things that are completely out of their control... You know the company who empties your bins get charged for every bin thats been missed???
Please dont complain about the bin men... They are normal people just trying to make a living like the rest of us... I bet you'll soon be complaining if your bin wasn't emptied.

Cazzaben · 09/04/2009 23:46

Oh and I just wanted to add too that my Husband is a refuse driver... and he starts his job at midnight and gets home around 11/12 the next morning. Sometimes its later than that. (He empties industrial bins) Oh and he works on his own because there isn't enough money to give him a drivers mate...

He is entitled to a life too. He works his arse off and still gets complaints for working overnight. They are debating whether or not to make them start at 4am because of the noise...

Trouble is there are people like you who complain about them doing it during the day then you get others who complain about it being done in the night!!!!

There is no winner is there!!!

Like someone said... Its life deal with it...

knockedgymnast · 09/04/2009 23:57

OP, you are so lucky to not have much else to worry about......

QueenofSpleen · 10/04/2009 00:00

good on you cazza,

ChippingIn · 10/04/2009 01:10

knockedgymnast - ?? This is 'AIBU', not 'OMG this is the worst thing in my life'??? If you don't want to discuss this kind of thing, only life and death situations, then posting elsewhere would be a better idea.

HeadFairy · 10/04/2009 21:22

You're so right knockedgymnast. However, this was a silly frivolous thread. I realise in this world there are some terrible things happening and bin men blocking my roads are pretty trivial, but as chippingin said I'm not saying this is the worst thing ever, just it's one of those minor irritations. Don't take everything so seriously.
