To think that my new washing machine shouldn't break after SIX WEEKS, and...

...when it does, the engineer should have all three of the parts that might have gone wrong, not just one?

Or even if he hasn't, that it shouldn't take AT LEAST A WEEK to get them in?

Have a grubby toddler who's nearly out of clean trousers, no washing machine for at least a week, and it's not even two months old!

I really hope you get it sorted soon, you are right to feel mad. Washing machines are crucial!

Washersaurus · 07/04/2009 21:47

Mine did (twice)! I complained to the shop where I purchased it from, who referred me to the manufacturer, who listened to my complaint and promptly sent me a new machine ....

The new one has required maintenance on several occasions, but is still working.

frazzledgirl - how about finding a launderette and take a load of kids stuff just to give yourself a breathing space until the washer is repaired?

WinkyWinkola · 07/04/2009 21:56

What brand is it, frazzledgirl? Hotpoint by any chance?

Winky, you're uncanny. Yes, it is. Was yours, too? Was it the door?

ABD, think I'm going to have to. We have a launderette quite close, so mightn't be too much of a pain. Although the load that was in there needs finishing first; sh*tty nappies (wouldn't you just know it?).

May throw self on mercy of my friends and offer to bring round cake and make tea if they'll let me run a load of washing.

No, ours was the fanbelt. Broke within six months. And they were so very rude and unhelpful. Until I got John Lewis (where I bought the machine) onto the case. They obviously swung their purchasing muscle and a new machine arrived within a week.

I make a point of never ever buying Hotpoint now. I understand that some goods do break down but their customer service was so abysmal, I don't believe they deserve anybody's money.

I hope you get sorted out soon.

Washersaurus · 08/04/2009 12:55

Mine is Hoover and from my experience can state that Hoover Candy customer service is also bloody awful (so rude they made me cry on one occasion - In my defence, I was pregnant and hormonal with a washing full of unwashed dirty nappies).

I wish I could have afforded a Bosch...

frazzledgirl · 08/04/2009 13:43

And this is why, when I'm rich, I will only ever buy things from John Lewis:

Rang them y'day to explain what had happened with the machine they sold me.

They called back this morning to say they'd spoken to engineer and part had been ordered, but not much they could do to hurry it up. I said I thought a machine that broke within six weeks wasn't fit for purpose.

They agreed, and said they'd replace it. Have chosen a Bosch which was £100 more expensive, and they've put £50 towards it as a goodwill gesture!

Am feeling a lot of goodwill at the moment. Love John Lewis.

My first (and only) hotpoint washer broke 7 times in 12 months. I think the other residents in our street thought I was having an affair with the hotpoint man.

I eventually got a new washer from hotpoint, after the repairman wrote a report for me.

Stamp your foot and demand a new washer.

smartiejake · 08/04/2009 17:04

WHy is it being repaired when it's only 6 weeks old? You are within your rights to demand a new machine from the supplier not the maufacturer- get on the phone now and don't take no for an answer!
