This is'nt even so much of an AIBU as a rant TBH but still.

Basically one of my best friend's who I have noticed is getting more and more twisted with regards to emails and things I have asked him to stop he said okay but I got an Email earlier saying 'Watch this video soo funny' and thn he had wrote it's nothing sinister promise .

So I asked what it was he said it's just a fairground video so I thought okay assuming it was something he filmed as was ata fairground at the weekend.

Clicked on lin and it WAS not something I wanted to see yes it was a fairground but not funny at all incredibly nasty actually, so I phoned him and asked WTF he was sending me that kind of shit for and he says what it's funny?

Basically I told him to go take a good f**k to himself and if that's the kind of crap he finds funny then don't bother talking to me again.

Anyway rant a bit over but would you say IABU for cutting him out totally and not talking again? Am I over readting? Ach such a PITA.

Just delete all emails from him. I stopped reading emails from DH's sister a while ago because she only ever sent chainmail stuff round. Ditto my aunt. Doesn't stop me liking them, but I have no desire to read that stuff.

mamadiva · 06/04/2009 13:57

I think that's what I will do Bling I think I did slightly over react but it's just not a nice video and to say it's funny disgusts me.

With regards to the incident though I hope that something can be done about the safety laws in Siberia (not Serbia I got mixed up) when a child can climb over a fence, turn on a ferris wheel and go for a ride it is a very, very bad state of affairs.

I don't think you over-reacted at all and, quite frankly, him not sending it to me wouldn't be enough for me, I just wouldn't be able to be friends with someone who thinks watching a child die is funny.

I hope they find the bastards who just laughed and taped it and offer them up to the family of the little boy....

SalBySea · 06/04/2009 14:04

yes the clip is sick, but TBH you dont need to look at "forwards" especially from someone who you know does not share your limits. Why not just delete them? I delete all forwards without reading them, mainly cause I think they are childish and a waste of my time

My best mate was sending me about 3 a day and I emailed her saying that I use my email for business and whilst it was nice to hear from her if she wanted to email me her news, I did not have room in my inbox or time in my day to be going through silly chain letters and jokes.

She kept sending them, I wrote back "if you dont stop sending me chain letters I will have to block your email address as I do not have time or space for them"

the kept sending them, I blocked her email, we're still friends.

DSM · 06/04/2009 14:07

You do know that story is a hoax though, don't you?

Regardless, your friend shouldn't be sending you things that you have asked not to see. I wouldn't cut him out of your life, but I wouldn't open his email links either.

I remember when the video came out on youtube of the breakdancer who kicked a baby in the face. I must have been shown it by 5 or 6 people. They all thought it was funny. I felt sick. I reckon though, that pre-children, I probably would have thought it was funny.

BitOfFunnyBunny · 06/04/2009 14:10

How come it's a hoax, DSM?

mamadiva · 06/04/2009 14:10

It's not a hoax DSM, I googled the news story because I thought it must've been but it is'nt.

If you want links I can put them here (the news story not the video)

Really? What an odd person you are. In what way can that be judged 'funny'?

TsarChasm · 06/04/2009 14:12

That sounds ghastly. If anyone sent that to me thinking it was funny or that I would find it so, then it really would affect my opinion of them.

I don't mind a dark sense of humour, I have a bit of one myself, but things like that (I didn't know there were things like that tbh passed round as funny) especially as it involves a child....and people just stood there laughing and filming it? God what a world.

solidgoldshaggingbunnies · 06/04/2009 14:13

Ok sometimes the reason people keep sending you bullshit of one kind or another (it's equally annoying whether it's sick humour or those stomach-turning 'friendship wishes' and 'guardian angels') is that they are too lazy or technologically incompetent to single out particular email addresses when they are doing their happy-moron thing of hitting 'Forward-all' each time one of their mates sends them the latest joke/prayer/ickle pwitty kitty piccy.

DSM · 06/04/2009 14:14

It was in loads of 'news' reports on the internet. Its a hoax.

To be logical; why would a boy of 6 be alone at a park? He broke in? And turned on a ferris wheel? Without a key? There were 'loads' of other people filming, how did they get in?

To be honest though, this isn't the point of the thread. I agree wholeheartedly that your friend shouldn't send you things that you have told him offend you.

KayHarker · 06/04/2009 14:15

SGB, that's quite true, actually. I get reams of the kind of stuff that would look right at home on a sparkly ticker on another website, even though I've asked for it to stop, and I know it's just because they do the reply-all thing.

DSM · 06/04/2009 14:16

BecauseImWoefit - millions of people found it funny. It was featured on Richard and Judy one evening. It was rated one of youtubes funniest videos.

Personally I felt a bit sick, probably because the toddler in the video looks about the same age as my son was when I saw it. Its not that bad, but personally I didn't find it funny.

TsarChasm · 06/04/2009 14:16

Fil sends tons of junk 'funnies' to us. Nothing like mamadiva was describing, but it gets really tedious. I wonder if he does much else with his time tbh. Some of them are just pathetic.

KayHarker · 06/04/2009 14:20

I've just had a mooch about on Snopes, and I can't find anything to indicate that the story is a hoax DSM.

DSM · 06/04/2009 14:20

Apparently, the whole thing is a hoax. The 'news' video on youtube isn't real. Why would a Russian news channel be broadcast in English?

Also, the video is still available to watch on youtube.

Honestly, there are loads of elaborate internet hoaxes, this is one of them.

Not a very nice one, why people would do this, I can't understand.

mamadiva · 06/04/2009 14:23

Pre children or not a kid being kicked in the face is never going to be funny to me.

DSM maybe it is a hoax I can't find anything bar videos but in a way I hope it is because the video is just horrific, actually I don't think there is anyway of replicating what happened in it is there outside of Hollywood?

And to answer your questions DSM, it says he climbed a 6 foot fence and soemhow got hold of the controls, it was just outside of a play park so could be near his home, there was a group of boys filming from outside the theme park and they did not start filming until the boy was dangling screaming for help it was by a path.

But yes agreed not the point although I want to know if it is a hoax now, it has made me feel slightly better that it may not have happened I admit.

OP posts:
mamadiva · 06/04/2009 14:24

I thought that about the news thing to but the actual video is not on youtube as far as I know I was sent a link to another website.

OP posts:
KayHarker · 06/04/2009 14:27

I hope it's a hoax too.

Kids being kicked in the face isn't funny to me, but it's not quite in the same league as finding watching an actual death funny.

I mean, You've Been Framed still gets plenty of mileage out of old ladies falling over in a strong wind and potentially breaking their hips which I've always found highly distressing.

DSM · 06/04/2009 14:29

It is still on youtube - i just searched for it and found it. I didn't watch it.

Yes, I didn't understand why the child being kicked by the breakdancer was funny.. it was one of those 'video phenomena' that was everywhere for a week or two. Weird.

Its not as bad as my description makes it sound. TBH. I am making it sound worse because I didn't like it.

Basically there is a guy breakdancing in a shopping centre or some such, group of people all round. A small child runs forward and catches on the breakdancers leg and is flipped into the air about 2 feet. Thats all, he isn't really 'kicked' as such.

I definitely made it sound worse than it is

solidgoldshaggingbunnies · 06/04/2009 14:30

I watched a bit of that clip mamadiva and it looks very dubious to me - camera angles and quality of footage for one thing. It is also extremely unlikely that the controls for a ferris wheel would be accessible and understandable to a 6-year-old. It may be that the clip is just an exercise in xenophobia (look at those dodgy Russkies with their run down fairgrounds and their laughing at dying children, look how awful they are...).

ItsMargotBeauregarde · 06/04/2009 14:31

he thought you would like to watch a boy being seriously injured???

that's weird

YANBU.

BitOfFunnyBunny · 06/04/2009 14:38

FWIW, it almost certainly is a hoax. Not one "reputable" news site is carrying the story, and most of the sites that have it are using exactly the same phraseology, suggesting a single source for the report, ie pure viral transmission, whereas proper journalism would require independent verification and fact-checking before running a story. Unless you are the Daily Mail I suppose...

MrsMagooo · 06/04/2009 15:19

Why not just block his email address? That way his forwarded emails won't even reach your Inbox
