to expect the result for my GTT to be available promptly?

So I recently had a high blood glucose test result and was called in for a GTT yesterday (a full two weeks after the blood sample was taken). The hospital told me I'd get the GTT results the same afternoon as I was tested, and I've just called now (admittedly only 24 hours later) and they've said it might be today or it might be tomorrow before they call me with the result; they haven't had the chance to go through the results yet.

I'm 32 weeks now, and am anxious to find out the result so I can make immediate changes to diet, etc. if need be. Am I being unreasonable to want them to prioritise checking blood results?

Well I think a day or two for GTT results is not that unreasonable. If they turn out to be abnormal, you'll need a proper appointment with diabetes specialists anyway, so you wouldn't be able to make all the changes to diet straight away anyway.

You can always eat low GI until you know, without having to have the test results in front of you.

I do know it's a horrid thing to have done and worry about - hope your results come soon and are ok.

Your results need to be checked and commented on by the chemical pathology consultant so you receive the correct follow up. I hope you get the results back today and if you do I would consider that prompt.

Change your diet whilst you wait.

Thanks, everyone. Just a little frustrated that they gave me a timeframe, and it keeps being pushed out. Hopefully I'll hear tomorrow but thanks to you all I'll amend my diet now.

Cheers

Blimey, I had a GTT when I was 27/28 weeks (everyone does over here, just the "drink 300ml of this flat lemonade drink" and have a blood test 1 hr later, not the full blown GTT that is offered later if you have high results).

I had the drink at 9.50am, the bloods were taken at 10.50am and my midwife had phoned me with the results by about 2pm that same day.
